Narrative

LEVELED OFF AT CRUISE. CRUISE CHKS PERFORMED. DURING NORMAL SCAN OF ENG INSTS; CAPT/PIC NOTICED R ENG OIL PRESSURE AT MAX ON GAUGE; IN EXCESS OF 100 PSI WHICH IS ALSO RED LINE (UPPER LIMIT). REDUCED PWR ON AFFECTED ENG. NO CHANGE IN OIL PRESSURE INDICATION. ALL OTHER ENG INDICATIONS FOR AFFECTED ENG NORMAL AND WITHIN ACCEPTABLE PARAMETERS. CAPT ASSUMED CTL OF ACFT FROM FO; AND ANNOUNCED R ENG WOULD BE SHUT DOWN. CAPT CALLED OUT MEMORY ITEMS IN ACCORDANCE WITH COMPANY PROC; R ENG SHUTDOWN. FO COMPLETED SHUTDOWN CHKLIST AND R ENG SECURED. CAPT CONTACTED CTR. INFORMED ATC OF SHUTDOWN AND DECLARED EMER. ACFT CLRED TO LAND STRAIGHT IN; VISUAL AT SOUTH BEND; IN. CHKLISTS PERFORMED; ACFT CONFIGURED TO LAND; CFR EQUIP REQUESTED. SINGLE ENG LNDG WAS UNEVENTFUL AND ACCORDING TO PROC; NO REVERSE PITCH USED. FULL LENGTH OF RWY USED. ACFT TAXIED CLR AND TO GATE. PAX DEPLANED AND ACFT INSPECTED BY MAINT. ALTHOUGH ALL OTHER ENG INDICATIONS WERE NORMAL AT TIME HIGH OIL PRESSURE NOTICED; CAPT ELECTED PRECAUTIONARY SHUTDOWN TO AVOID POSSIBILITY OF DAMAGE TO ENG AND/OR ENG FIRE. ULTIMATELY; MAINT REVEALED PROB WAS BAD XMITTER TO ENG OIL PRESSURE GAUGE.
