MLG FLC MISREADS ARPT DIAGRAM; TAXIES WRONG TXWY.

Narrative

HOW PROB AROSE: INADEQUATE TXWY MARKINGS ON ARPT SURFACE AND ON COMMERCIAL ARPT DIAGRAMS. WE WERE CLRED TO SPOT #6; THEN TOLD TO TURN L WHICH PLACED US ON TXWY A. WE WERE AT INTXN OF TXWY D AND TXWY W AND SEQUENCED TO FOLLOW A COMPANY ACFT IN FRONT OF US. THE CTLR ASKED US TO CROSS RWY 27R AT TXWY D. I HAD THE 11-0 CHART WHICH DOES NOT SHOW TXWY D; BUT THE TXWY D SIGN WAS RIGHT THERE AT THE INTXN. THE FO HAD THE 10-9 AND MISREAD THE TXWY D. HOW DISCOVERED: CTLR TOLD US WHILE WE WERE ON RWY 27R THAT HE WANTED US ON TXWY D. WE ASKED WHAT HE WANTED US TO DO NOW. HE SAID GO AHEAD ACROSS AND HOPE WE HAVE ROOM FOR YOU ON OTHER SIDE. WE CROSSED ON TXWY W AND WERE ABLE TO PULL UP FAR ENOUGH TO CLR RWY 27R. WE APOLOGIZED BUT INDICATED THE TXWY MARKINGS WERE NOT VERY GOOD. HE AGREED AND SAID NO PROB. CONTRIBUTING FACTORS: FAMILIARITY SOMETIMES IS OUR OWN WORST ENEMY. PLTS AND CTLRS NEED TO BE AWARE OF ANY CHANGES TO THE ROUTINE. WE SHOULD HAVE BEEN MORE VIGILANT; THE CTLR COULD HAVE BEEN MORE SPECIFIC; I.E.; USE TXWY D; CROSS RWY 27R RIGHT ON 'AA.' THIS WOULD HAVE FORCED US TO CONSULT DIAGRAM TO SEE LOGICAL RTE TO 'AA.' WX WAS GOOD AND THE DEP BANK HAD JUST STARTED. SOMETIMES TO RUSH TOO MUCH WHEN THE WX IS GOOD; MAYBE WE SHOULD SLOW THE PACE JUST A LITTLE WHEN WE HAVE LOTS OF RWY XINGS ON AN ACTIVE RWY. THE BEST INTENTIONS OF A GOOD CREW WERE NEGATED BY NOT ASKING FOR HELP FROM A BUSY CTLR.
