Synopsis

FO OF AN MLG ACR ACFT EXECUTED AN UNAUTH DME ARC DURING AN ILS APCH.

Narrative

WE FLEW THE 20 MI ARC TO THE ILS AT KETCHIKAN TO A PERFECTLY EXECUTED ILS. AFTER LNDG WE WERE TOLD THAT THE 20 MI ARC WAS NO LONGER APPROVED AND SHOULD HAVE FLOWN THE PROC TURN INSTEAD. WE THEN FOUND BURIED WITHIN AN FDC NOTAM THAT WAS BURIED WITHIN THE FDC NOTAMS THAT INDEED THE 20 MI ARC WAS NOT AUTH. I PERSONALLY CHKED THE NOTAMS PRIOR TO THE FLT AND DIDN'T SEE IT. THE CAPT AND ANOTHER PLT AND DISPATCHER ALSO CHKED THEM AND DID NOT SEE IT. PERHAPS ALL NOTAMS REGARDING A FIELD SHOULD BE PLACED TOGETHER AND NOT BURIED THROUGHOUT THE PAPERWORK SECTIONS. UNTIL THEN; I SHOULD USE A FINE-TOOTH COMB BEFORE GOING TO THE PLANE OR FLYING AN APCH. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR STATED THAT HE WAS INFORMED BY THE FAA FSS ON ARR THAT THE DME ARC WAS NO LONGER AUTH; AFTER WHICH TIME HE LOCATED THE NOTAM PROVIDED BY DISPATCH. WHEN QUESTIONED WITH REGARD TO THE DISTANCE OF THE DME ARC HE CONFIRMED THAT IT SHOULD HAVE READ 30 INSTEAD OF 20 DME ARC! HE FURTHER STATED THAT HE HAD LEARNED FROM THIS LESSON BY RE-ESTABLISHING PROC FOR REVIEWING ALL DEST ARPT'S LATEST INFO TO HELP PREVENT A FUTURE OCCURRENCE.
