Synopsis

FUEL EXHAUSTION IN 1 TANK OF ACR WDB PRODUCES A FLAME OUT; INFLT ENG SHUTDOWN AND RESTART OCCURS IN A SEQUENCED FASHION.

Narrative

OVER LBF MASTER CAUTION CAME ON AND #3 TANK AFT PUMP PRESSURE LIGHT WAS THE CAUSE. I PLACED THE FORWARD #3 TANK PUMP SWITCH TO ON AND THE ASSOCIATED LOW PRESSURE LIGHT CAME ON. I NOTICED #3 FUEL PRESSURE DECREASING SO I PLACED ALL XFEEDS OPEN AND ALL TRANSFER PUMP SWITCHES TO ON. THIS ACTION WAS TOO LATE TO PREVENT #3 ENG FROM FLAMING OUT AS THE #3 TANK WAS EMPTY. #1 TANK HAD 9500 LBS; #2 HAD 12500 LBS. CLRNC WAS OBTAINED AND A DSCNT INITIATED WITH THE FO FLYING THE AIRPLANE. THE CAPT AND I COMPLETED THE ENG SHUTDOWN CHKLIST. THEN; BECAUSE WE KNEW THE CAUSE OF THE FLAMEOUT AND ALL OTHER #3 ENG INDICATIONS WERE NORMAL; WE ACCOMPLISHED THE ENG RESTART CHKLIST SUCCESSFULLY AT APPROX FL300. NORMAL LNDG AT DEN. ALL FUEL PANEL FILL VALVES WERE INDICATING CLOSED AND ALL TRANSFER PUMP SWITCHES WERE OFF WITH NO ABNORMAL INDICATIONS PRIOR TO ENG FLAMEOUT. THE LAST TIME I CAN RECALL DOING A PANEL SCAN WAS DIRECTLY AFTER PASSING OBH. I WAS TALKING ON THE ARINC FREQ WITH SAME CTLR AT THE TIME OF OCCURRENCE ABOUT AN UNRELATED QUESTION.
