Narrative
LEAVING THE TERMINAL AREA AT HOU; WE WERE TAXIING OUT TO RWY 30L; THE ACTIVE RWY; ON TXWY C. AFTER CLRING ACROSS RWY 4/22 AND WHILE PERFORMING THE TAXI CHKLIST; I LOOKED FORWARD TO SEE BARRICADES ON THE OTHER SIDE OF WHAT APPEARED TO BE A RWY. AFTER VERIFYING OUR LOCATION BY REFING THE AIRFIELD DIAGRAM IN MY PUBS; I REALIZED WE HAD JUST TURNED ONTO RWY 15L/30R. GND CTL TOLD US TO EXPEDITE TO THE END AND CLR; WHICH WE DID. SWITCHED TO TWR FREQ AND CONTINUED ON WITH THE FLT. YOU ARE REQUIRED TO MAKE A 45 DEG TURN TO THE L AFTER CLRING RWY 4/22 TO STAY SBOUND ON TXWY C. WE MADE A 45 DEG R TURN. THE L TURN LOOKS LIKE A TXWY TO AN FBO SINCE IT IS NEW AND A DIFFERENT COLOR AND HAS A BIG RAMP AREA ON THE OTHER SIDE. THE COLOR OF THE R TURN LOOKS LIKE MOST OF THE OTHER TXWYS AT HOU. AFTER MAKING THE R HAND TURN YOU SEE THE BARRICADES OFF THE NOSE WITH THE ONLY WAY OUT TO THE L; WHICH IS RWY 15L/30R. FROM THIS ANGLE; RWY 15L/30R SEEMS A REASONABLE COURSE TO TAKE SINCE IT POINTS DIRECTLY AT AIRPLANES WAITING TO TKOF RWY 30L AND YOU FEEL PENNED IN ON THAT LITTLE BIT ON TXWY BTWN TXWY C AND RWY 30R STARING AT BARRICADES WITH ONLY A SBOUND TURN FOR AN OPTION; WHICH IS WELCOME SINCE THAT IS THE DIRECTION YOU WISH TO GO. WITH THE ADDITION OF TXWY C YET ANOTHER SAFETY TRAP WAS SET AT HOU; THE MOST HAZARDOUS ARPT TO NAV IN THE COUNTRY. RWY 30R SHOULD NOT BE ACTIVE WHEN RWY 30L OR TXWY C IS. SOMEONE WILL BE KILLED WITH THE CURRENT SETUP. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION FROM ACN 255028: AS I TAXIED ACROSS RWY 4/22 I MADE THE R TURN ONTO TXWY O INSTEAD OF THE L ONTO THE NEW CONCRETE TXWY C; AS IT LOOKED LIKE A NEW RAMP TXWY WITH THE PROX OF LIGHT ACFT PARKED THERE. I WAS USING VISUAL CUES FURTHER DOWN FIELD TO ORIENT THE TXWY. GND CTL ADVISED US THAT WE WERE ON AN ACTIVE RWY AND TOLD US TO CLR AT THE NEXT TURNOFF. A LIGHT TWIN HAD TO GAR BEFORE WE COULD CLR THE RWY. APPARENTLY THE SAME THING HAS HAPPENED TO OTHER PLTS.
