Narrative
FLT RDD TO EUG TO PDX. WHILE TAXIING FOR DEP ON RWY 34 WE PICKED UP OUR CLRNC TO EUG. (NO CLRNC DELIVERY.) THE DEP PROC ISSUED WAS NOT THE NORMAL SID WE USUALLY GET. AS WE STOPPED AT THE HOLD LINE; TWR INFORMED US THAT THERE WAS OPPOSITE DIRECTION TFC DEPARTING RWY 16 AND INBOUND TFC IFR FROM THE S. I CONCLUDED THERE WOULD BE A DELAY FOR TKOF TO ACCOMMODATE THE OTHER 2 ACFT. THE FO AND I PULLED OUT OUR CHARTS TO FIND THE INTXN WHERE WE WERE ASSIGNED TO PROCEED. THE TWR THEN CONTACTED US; AGAIN AFTER THE TFC HAD DEPARTED RWY 16. THE FO DID NOT READ BACK THE INSTRUCTION; BUT INSTEAD ANSWERED ONLY WITH OUR CALL SIGN. AS I GLANCED OUT THE WINDOW I SAW THE LIGHTS OF THE INBOUND TFC FROM THE S; AND CONCLUDED THAT TWR WAS TRYING TO HURRY US OUT BEFORE HE LANDED. AS WE LIFTED OFF THE TWR TOLD US WE HAD ONLY BEEN CLRED 'INTO POS AND HOLD.' IN LOOKING BACK I CANNOT RECALL WITH CERTAINTY WHAT WAS GIVEN; AS I WAS DISTRACTED WITH THE DEP PROC. FROM NOW ON I WILL INSIST ON COMPLETE READBACKS OF ALL CLRNCS ISSUED WHETHER RECEIVED BY ME OR MY FO. THERE WAS NO CONFLICT WITH ANY OTHER TFC.
