FLC OF AN SMT CPR ACFT INADVERTENTLY SWITCHED TO GND CTL FREQ WHILE STILL ON THE RWY.

Narrative

ON NOV/TUE/93; AFTER LNDG IN VISUAL METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS AT ONT AT APPROX XA45 IN THE DARK; WE HAD ROLLED OUT TO A SLOW GND SPD ON RWY 26L AND WANTED TO GO TO THE ACFT MANUFACTURER DEALER. THE CAPT SAID WHERE IS IT. I SAID IT'S RIGHT THERE WHILE POINTING AT THE ACFT MANUFACTURER SIGN. HE WANTED TO KNOW WHERE THE TXWY WAS AND THOUGHT I WAS POINTING AT A TXWY. AFTER CONTACTING TWR ON FINAL; I PUT GND CTL IN THE STANDBY POS IN THE #1 VHF COM RADIO. WHEN I POINTED TO THE L; HE TURNED TO THE L; ONLY TO DISCOVER THERE WAS NO TXWY THERE; SO HE JAMMED ON THE BRAKES AT THIS POINT; NEAR THE WHITE RWY EDGE MARKER AND FLIPPED THE TRANSFER SWITCH ON THE #1 VHF COM RADIO. THEN; I THINK HE SAID IT; ONE OF US SAID SOMETHING TO THE EFFECT 'WHERE IS THE TXWY.' WHEREUPON THE GND CTLR SAID YOU SHOULDN'T BE ON GND CTL WHILE YOU ARE STILL ON THE RWY. WE SWITCHED TO TWR AND THEY INSTRUCTED US TO TAXI ON W TO THE NEXT TXWY/EXIT. WHEN WE WERE ON THE RAMP; GND CTL REQUESTED THAT WE GIVE HIM A CALL ON THE PHONE. THE CAPT GAVE HIM A CALL AND BLAMED ME FOR THE EVENT. TO CORRECT THIS PROB IN THE FUTURE; I WILL BE SURE TO TALK LOUDLY ENOUGH SO THERE CAN BE NO MISUNDERSTANDING ABOUT WHAT I SAID AND GUARD THE TRANSFER SWITCH MORE CLOSELY.
