Synopsis

MAJOR HYD FAILURE OF AN MLG ACFT CAUSED BOTH L MAIN TIRES TO BE BLOWN DURING LNDG ROLLOUT AND THE PAX TO BE DEPLANED ON THE RWY.

Narrative

ON ROUTINE PAX FLT FROM DFW TO SJC; WE HAD INTERMEDIATE LEVEL OFF AT FL310. WE NOTICED HYD LOW QUANTITY LIGHT ILLUMINATE ON R HYD SYS. QUANTITY INDICATED 3 QUARTS. WE ACCOMPLISHED ABNORMAL PROCS; CONTACTED COMPANY FLT CTL; THEN CONTINUED ON TO SJC. ON APCH INTO SJC; WE PRESSURIZED THE HYD SYS AND EXTENDED THE FLAP HANDLE TO 15 DEGS. NOW BOTH L AND R HYD SYS INDICATED ZERO PRESSURE. WE ACCOMPLISHED ABNORMAL PROCS AND EVENTUALLY GOT THE FLAPS TO LNDG CONFIGN. WE LANDED IN SJC WITH PUMPS TURNED OFF (AS PER THE PROC) WITH ONLY ACCUMULATOR PRESSURE AVAILABLE FOR BRAKES AND NO NOSEWHEEL STEERING. WE LANDED ON CTRLINE; ON SPD. THE ACFT BEGAN TO DRIFT R. THE CAPT APPLIED L DIFFERENTIAL BRAKING TO RETURN TO CTRLINE AND WE CAME TO STOP WITH 3-4000 FT REMAINING. BOTH L TIRES WERE BLOWN. PAX WERE DEPLANED THROUGH AFT STAIRWAY AND TRANSPORTED TO TERMINAL .VERY SMOOTH TOUCHDOWN AND ROLLOUT -- NO INJURIES. FOUND OUT LATER; THE R HYD PUMP FAILED AND WE LOST FLUID. ALL PROCS WERE COMPLIED WITH AND NO OTHER PROBS WERE ENCOUNTERED. THE RWY WAS CLOSED UNTIL THEY COULD TOW THE ACFT OFF. CREW COORD WAS GREAT; ATC VERY HELPFUL. NO OTHER FACTORS NOTEWORTHY TO RPT.
