ILLEGAL LOGBOOK ENTRY AND ACFT DISPATCH.
Narrative
INCORRECT LOGBOOK ENTRIES AND SIGNOFF OF AN EMER EXIT SIGN ON THE UPPER DECK EMER EXIT. ACFT ARRIVED AT XX10 ON NOV/MON/93. AN FAA INSPECTOR NOTICED THE PLACARDS WERE MISSING ON THE UPPER DECK EMER EXIT ON THE R SIDE OF THE ACFT. THIS IS A NO-GO ITEM. I INFORMED MY SUPVR AND MAINT CTL.. WE DID NOT HAVE THE REQUIRED PLACARDS AT THE STATION. MAINT CTL SAID THEY WOULD CONTACT ENGINEERING AND SEE IF IT WAS REQUIRED. ABOUT AN HR WENT BY AND IT WAS JUST ABOUT GO TIME WHEN THE RADIO CONVERSATION GOT HOT ON THE PLACARD AGAIN AND WE WERE TOLD THAT THE PLACARDS DID NOT APPLY TO THIS ACFT; AND THAT A FAX WAS BEING SENT TO INDICATE THIS. MY SUPVR TOLD ME THAT HE HAD READ THE FAX AND IT DID SAY THE PLACARDS WERE NOT REQUIRED. I ASKED IF I COULD SEE THE FAX AND HE SAID IT WAS STILL OVER IN THE MAIN OFFICE; BUT IT DID SAY THAT THE PLACARDS WERE NOT REQUIRED AND IT WOULD BE OK TO SIGN THE LOGBOOK OFF SAYING NOT REQUIRED. I DID; AND THE ACFT WAS DISPATCHED. THEN; THE NEXT DAY; NOV/TUE/93 I FOUND OUT THAT THERE WAS NO FAX AND THE PLACARDS WERE REQUIRED.
