LOGBOOK IMPROPERLY SIGNED OFF AS 'OK FOR SVC' DUE TO MAINT FOREMAN'S MISREADING OF THE ILLUSTRATED PARTS MANUAL; IPC; ON AN ACR MLG FOR 'EMER EXIT' SIGN PLACEMENT.

Narrative

ON DEC/XX/93 AN FAA SAFETY REPRESENTATIVE MENTIONED TO ME THAT INCORRECT PLACARDS WERE INSTALLED ON DOORS 1R AND 2R ON THE INNER LINER JUST ABOVE THE WINDOWS ON AN MLG Y. THE SAFETY REPRESENTATIVE SAID THE PLACARDS READ 'EXIT' BUT SHOULD READ 'EMER EXIT.' UPON INVESTIGATION OF THE PROB; I FOUND NO PLACARDS INSTALLED WHATSOEVER ABOVE THE WINDOWS ON DOORS 1R AND 2R. I INFORMED MY FOREMAN OF THE PROB AND AS HE LOOKED IN THE ILLUSTRATED PARTS MANUAL FOR REF; I WAS SENT TO ANOTHER MLG Y ON ANOTHER GATE TO SEE IF THE PLACARDS WERE INSTALLED. AFTER FINDING NO PLACARDS ABOVE THE WINDOWS ON DOORS 1R AND 2R; I WAS INFORMED BY MY FOREMAN THAT THERE WAS NO REF OF ANY PLACARDS ABOVE THE WINDOWS ON DOORS 1R AND 2R. SUBSEQUENTLY; I SIGNED OFF THE WRITE-UP I MADE AS 'OK FOR SVC.' IT WAS LATER BROUGHT TO MY ATTN THAT THE ILLUSTRATED PARTS MANUAL USED TO REF THE PLACARDS WAS FOR AN MLG X AND THAT THE ILLUSTRATED PARTS MANUAL FOR AN MLG Y SHOWED A REQUIREMENT OF 'EMER EXIT' PLACARDS ABOVE THE WINDOWS ON DOORS 1R AND 2R. AFTER LEARNING THIS; THE WRITE-UP WAS RECTIFIED AND ARRANGEMENTS WERE MADE TO GET THE PLACARDS INSTALLED ON ALL OF OUR MLG Y'S.
