CTL WAS LOST DURING MAX PERFORMANCE TKOF IN HIGH WINDS AND ACFT VEERED OFF RWY.
Narrative
TAXIED OUT TO INTXN FOR DEP ON RWY 8; 2000 FT REMAINING. I WAS TOLD WIND WAS 070 AT 20 KTS. I ELECTED TO DO A FLAPS 40 DEG TKOF AND PRACTICE A MAX PERFORMANCE TKOF. AS I TAXIED ONTO THE RWY; I ADVANCED THE PWR LEVERS AND BEFORE I HAD PWR LEVERS TO TKOF PWR; I WAS AIRBORNE. I STARTED TURNING TO THE L AND DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH RUDDER AUTH; SO I PULLED PWR TO IDLE. AS WE HIT THE RWY FROM A FEW FT UP; I SHOT AHEAD. I APPLIED BRAKES AND LOCKED THE WHEELS UP; BUT WENT OFF THE L SIDE OF THE RWY. I THEN APPLIED SOME PWR AS NECESSARY TO KEEP THE PLANE ROLLING THROUGH THE PLOWED FIELD. I GOT THE PLANE TURNED AROUND AND TAXIED BACK TO THE RAMP; SHUT DOWN AND INSPECTED FOR DAMAGE AND FOUND NONE. I FILLED OUT A RPT IN THE TWR AND; AT THAT TIME; THE WIND WAS 040 AT 21 KTS GUSTING TO 25 KTS. I BELIEVE THE WIND SHIFTED AND/OR SHEARED THE MOMENT I TAXIED ONTO THE RWY AND WAS NOT RPTED TO ME. I HAVE DONE SEVERAL 40 DEG FLAP TKOFS BEFORE IN STEADY WINDS. RPTED WINDS WERE CRITICAL IN MY DECISION TO USE 40 DEG FLAPS AND AN INTXN. I DO THESE TYPE TKOFS TO MAINTAIN PROFICIENCY SHOULD I HAVE TO DO A 40 DEG FLAP GAR AS FLAPS TAKE PLUS OR MINUS 15 SECONDS TO RETRACT; OR SHOULD THEY NOT RETRACT. THIS HAS MADE ME A LOT MORE CAUTIOUS AND I CERTAINLY KNOW MY LIMITS; PLUS I WON'T GET IN A HURRY ANYMORE. IT WAS A HUMBLING EXPERIENCE AND DID ME A LOT OF GOOD IN SPITE OF BRUISED PRIDE.
