Synopsis

AN ACR MLG CAPT WAS THE VICTIM OF A BAD WRITE-UP IN HIS LOGBOOK.

Narrative

IN SUM: AN ACR MLG CAPT WAS RECEIVING A LINE QUALIFICATION LAX-MEX. THE ACFT HAD 2 MECHANICAL PROBS; THE RADAR WAS 'WEAK' AND THE AUTOBRAKE SYS WOULD NOT TEST CORRECTLY IN THE REJECTED TKOF MODE. THE RPTR WANTED BOTH PROBS FIXED AS THERE MIGHT BE WX ENRTE AND BECAUSE HE WAS NEW TO THE ACFT AND THE RTE OF FLT. A MECH AND HIS SUPERIOR WANTED TO DEFER THE AUTO BRAKE PROB; AND THE CHK AIRMAN GAVE THE RPTR NO BACKING IN GETTING IT FIXED. THE RPTR FINALLY GAVE IN TO DEFERRING THE AUTO BRAKE PROB; WITH THE CONCURRENCE OF HIS DISPATCH OFFICE. THE ANOMALY WAS WRITTEN OFF 'AUTO SPD BRAKE WILL NOT TEST ON RTO;' VICE THE PROPER 'AUTO BRAKES WILL NOT TEST RTO.' THE CREW THAT TOOK OVER THE ACFT IN MEX NOTED THE PROB. THE RPTR'S ACR DOES NOT ISSUE THE MEL TO THE PLTS. THE RPTR ADMITS THAT HE MADE A MISTAKE BY ALLOWING HIS CHK AIRMAN TO SWAY HIM AND LETTING THE MECHS PUSH HIM. THE COCKPIT SETUP BECAME VERY HURRIED. THE RPTR IS REMORSEFUL. THE RPTR WAS NOT ABLE TO SEE THE LOGBOOK UNTIL THE LAST MIN AND DID NOT HAVE TIME TO REVIEW IT PROPERLY.
