Synopsis

LTT'S WINGTIP DAMAGED AFTER HITTING A SET OF PORTABLE STAIRS IN NIGHT RAMP OP ACFT PARKING PROC.

Narrative

AS THE CAPT WAS TAXIING THE ACFT TO THE GATE; WE HAD 2 WING WALKERS ON THE L HAND SIDE SIGNALING THAT WE WOULD CLR AN AIRSTAIR (WHICH WAS PARKED AT THE JETWAY). WE ALSO HAD A MARSHALLER DIRECTING US TO CONTINUE STRAIGHT AHEAD. ONCE WE PASSED THE WING WALKERS; THE CAPT DIRECTED HIS ATTN TO THE MARSHALLER WHO CONTINUED SIGNALING TO PROCEED 'STRAIGHT AHEAD.' AT THIS POINT THE CAPT AND I FELT AND HEARD A 'BUMP.' APPARENTLY WE HAD HIT THE AIRSTAIRS WITH THE LEADING EDGE OF THE L WING/WINGTIP. THE WING WENT OVER THE FIRST RAILING OF THE AIRSTAIRS BUT CAUGHT THE SECOND ONE; SCRUBBING THE AIRSTAIRS AROUND. THIS IN TURN CAUSED THE FIRST RAILING TO HIT THE AFT WINGTIP AND L AILERON. ONE WING WALKER WAS ALSO HIT BY THE MOVING AIRSTAIRS. LATER THE NEXT DAY; WE HEARD FROM HER COLLEAGUES AND MGR THAT THE DOCTOR SAID THAT SHE WAS ONLY BRUISED. ACCORDING TO COMPANY POLICY; ALL RAMPERS AND FLC WERE ADVISED THAT A DRUG TEST WOULD BE MANDATORY SO WE WENT TO THE NEAREST HOSPITAL WHERE THEY ALSO CHKED OUR WING WALKER'S LEG (WHICH HAD BEEN BRUISED). AT THE HOSPITAL; BEFORE WE TOOK THE DRUG TEST; MY CAPT TOLD ME THAT MGMNT JUST TOLD HIM THAT THE FLC WOULD NOT HAVE TO TAKE THE TEST. SO WE DIDN'T. ALL THE ABOVE PERTAINED TO FLT FROM CLEVELAND; OH; TO SYRACUSE; NY; ON JAN/XX/94. DEPENDING ON DAMAGE ESTIMATES; FAA MIGHT CONSIDER THIS AN ACCIDENT.
