SPATIAL DISORIENTATION SUFFERED BY LOW TIME PLT IN IMC TKOF PROC. LOSS OF ACFT CTL. ACFT DAMAGED IN GND CONTACT WITH OBSTRUCTION.

Narrative

I WAS CLRED FOR DEP ON RWY 12 AT SAC. RWY VISUAL RANGE I AM GUESSING WAS PROBABLY AROUND 1000 FT. I DEVELOPED FULL PWR FROM THE ENG; AND WHEN EVERYTHING WAS IN THE GREEN; I RELEASED THE BRAKES. AT 80 KTS I ROTATED AND I REMEMBER CALLING OUT 500 FPM. I DID NOT INCORPORATE A PROPER SCAN TECHNIQUE AND THE ACFT WENT INTO A L BANK. I WAS SUPPOSED TO TURN R TO 150 DEGS. I TRIED DOING SO AND BEFORE I KNEW IT WE WERE IN A STEEP NOSE HIGH ATTITUDE; JUST POKING THROUGH THE FOG LAYER. I IMMEDIATELY OVERCORRECTED BY PUSHING FULL FORWARD ON THE CTL YOKE. WITHIN SECONDS WE BROKE THROUGH UNDERNEATH THE FOG AND WERE HDG STRAIGHT FOR THE GND. I THEN PULLED BACK AS HARD AS I COULD ON THE YOKE AND JUST BARELY LEVELED OF; WHEN I STRUCK MY L WING ON SOMETHING; OR SO I THOUGHT. I REGAINED CTL OF THE ACFT AND ESTABLISHED STRAIGHT AND LEVEL ATTITUDE ABOVE THE OVCST. MY PAX SAID HE SAW SOMETHING TRAILING BEHIND THE L WINGTIP. IT WAS THE PITOT TUBE WIRE. THEN I NOTICED I HAD NO AIRSPD INDICATION. I TRIED TO RELAX AND CALM DOWN A BIT CONSIDERING WHAT HAD JUST HAPPENED. I THOUGHT THE WORST AND DECLARED A DISTRESS SIT WITH SAC APCH CTL. I TOLD THEM THAT I MIGHT HAVE STRUCK MY LNDG GEAR. THEY VECTORED ME TO CAMERON PARK ARPT; WHICH WAS ABOVE THE FOG. AFTER A FEW LOW PASSES OVER THE ARPT I WAS TOLD THAT MY GEAR WAS INTACT. I THEN MADE A SUCCESSFUL LNDG.
