AN ACR WDB CLBED THROUGH ITS ASSIGNED ALT ON DEP.
Narrative
DEPARTED RWY 25 PARIS ORY WITH A CLRNC ON LGL7P TO FL60. RECEIVED CONTINUED CLB TO FL80 BEFORE LEVELING AT FL60 WITH ALTIMETER SETTING AT 10.31 MB. AFTER PASSING THROUGH 40 FT; WE BECAME DISTRACTED BY A COM FAILURE AT ALL 3 FLT STATIONS. WE COULD RECEIVE BUT COULD NOT XMIT. INITIALLY; WITH A CLRNC TO FL80; I LOOKED UP FROM WORKING WITH THE AUDIO PANELS AND SAW THAT THE ALT WAS AT 8400 FT AND THE MB SETTING AT 10.31. ANNOUNCED ALT TO THE FO WHO WAS FLYING AND HE CORRECTED BACK TO 8000 FT. DURING THE XMISSIONS FROM PARIS; WE THINK ONE WAS A CLB TO 13000 FT WHICH WAS RECEIVED AFTER PASSING THROUGH 7000 FT INDICATED. BUT WE WERE SO BUSY TRYING TO ESTABLISH RADIO CONTACT WITH PARIS NO ONE COULD CONFIRM. DURING THE BRIEF COM FAILURE; PARIS MADE CONTINUOUS XMISSIONS AND ASKED FOR US TO IDENT WITH XPONDER. AFTER ESTABLISHING ALL COM BACK TO NORMAL; WE CONTINUED ON ISOLATING EACH AUDIO PANEL TRYING TO DUPLICATE PROB BEFORE ACCEPTING OCEANIC CLRNC. JUST BEFORE XING OUR OCEANIC COAST OUT POINT; WE AGAIN HAD XMISSION FAILURE WITH SHANWICK. WE COULD HEAR THEM CLEARLY; BUT COULD NOT XMIT. AT THAT POINT; I WENT TO THE CABIN AND TOLD THEM TO DEPOWER THE ENTERTAINMENT SYS AND NOT TO USE THE PA OR INTERCOM. BOTH TIMES WE LOST COM THE CAPT USED HIS AUDIO PANEL. AFTER HIS XMISSION BOTH TIMES; WE TRIED FO'S AND SO'S AUDIO PANEL AND THEY DIDN'T WORK. PLAYING WITH THE CAPT'S AUDIO PANEL; WE SWITCHED OFF ALL MIKE SELECTIONS; PULLED HIS MIKE AND HEADSET; AND THAT FIXED THE PROB. DURING THIS; I CHKED OUR HF RADIOS TO BE SURE WE HAD COM ABILITY. TALKED TO SHANWICK AND ALL CHKED OK. ALL COM FOR THE REST OF THE TRIP WAS NORMAL THROUGH FO'S AND SO'S PANEL. ONCE ON THE GND AT PHL; WE RETRIED THE CAPT'S SYS WITH PA PWRED AND ALL CHKED NORMAL.
