CAPT OF AN MLG ACR ACFT COMPLAINED ABOUT ATC RADAR VECTOR TO ILS OM AS TOO CLOSE AND HIGH FOR THE EASE IN MAKING THE APCH.
Narrative
WHILE ACTING AS CAPT AND PF OF A SCHEDULED FLT FOR A MAJOR ACR I ACCEPTED RADAR VECTORS FOR AN ILS APCH THAT BROUGHT US TOO NEAR THE OUTER COMPASS LOCATOR AT TOO HIGH AN ALT TO SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETE A NORMAL ILS APCH. OKC APCH CTL CLRED US FOR AN ILS APCH TO RWY 17R AT WILL ROGERS INTL ARPT. OUR LAST ASSIGNED HDG WAS 235 DEGS AND ALT WAS 4000 FT. THIS VECTOR BROUGHT US 1 NM OUTSIDE TOLOO LOM. WE REQUESTED A LOWER ALT FOR THE INTERCEPT AND RECEIVED CLRNC TO 3000 FT JUST A FEW MOMENTS PRIOR TO RECEIVING APCH CLRNC. THE GS INTERCEPT ALT AT THE LOM IS 2607 FT MSL. THIS VECTOR PLUS THE 200 KTS OF AIRSPD I WAS CARRYING MADE THE SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF THE ILS APCH DOUBTFUL. IN ADDITION; I WAS USING ENG; WING AND TAIL ANTI-ICE. THIS REQUIRED HIGHER PWR SETTINGS BECAUSE OF BLEED AIR REQUIREMENTS. AS A RESULT WE DIDN'T COMPLETE THE LNDG CHKLIST UNTIL WE WERE 400 FT AGL ON SHORT FINAL. I CONSIDERED A GAR BUT SINCE I HAD THE RWY IN SIGHT AND WAS ON THE GS I ELECTED TO LAND 14 KTS FAST ON A 9800 FT RWY. IN THE FUTURE I WILL MAINTAIN BETTER SITUATIONAL AWARENESS AND WON'T BE AS WILLING TO ACCEPT RADAR VECTORS TO A FINAL APCH AT AN ALT SO FAR ABOVE THE GS JUST TO ACCOMMODATE APCH CTL.
