UNAUTH LNDG. WRONG RWY APCH LNDG. NIGHT OP. FO MISREAD APCH CHART REGARDING LIMMA ONLY ON RWY 25R. CLRNC LNDG.

Narrative

THE FOLLOWING IS AS BEST OF A DESCRIPTION I CAN GIVE 4 DAYS AFTER THE EVENT. FLT FROM CHICAGO TO LAX ON JAN/TUE; WE WERE CLRED FOR THE CIVET 4 PROFILE DSCNT INTO LAX. CTL WANTED OUR SPD KEPT UP THROUGH-OUT THE DSCNT. AT ARNES WE WERE TOLD TO REDUCE SPD TO 210 KTS; CLRED FOR THE RWY 25 (UNREADABLE) APCH AND RPT LIMA TO THE TWR. AT THIS POINT WE WERE UNSURE IF THE LNDG RWY WAS RWY 25R OR RWY 25L A FAST REVIEW OF OUR APCHS CLEARLY SHOWED RWY 25R AS HAVING A FINAL APCH FIX OF LIMA. WHEN I CONTACTED TWR BOTH THE CAPT AND I THOUGHT THE TWR CLRED US TO LAND RWY 25R; I CONFIRMED BY SAYING IN EFFECT 'CLRED TO LAND RWY 25R.' THE APCH AND LNDG WAS UNEVENTFUL. APPROX 2 DAYS AFTER THE LNDG INTO LAX; WE WERE INFORMED THAT WE HAD LANDED ON THE WRONG RWY. THAT IN FACT WE WERE CLRED TO LAND ON RWY 25L NOT RWY 25R AND THAT BOTH ILS RWY 25L AND RWY 25R HAD A FINAL APCH OF LIMA. SOLUTIONS: BETTER INDIVIDUAL ATTN AND CONFIRMATION PROC BY BOTH PLTS. CHANGE FINAL APCH IDENTIFIER; TO CORRECT ANY CONFUSION THAT MIGHT OCCUR IN THE FUTURE.
