ACFT EQUIP PROB.
Narrative
ON LNDG NARITA WE HAD 7 TIRES BLOW OUT. THE LNDG AND APCH WERE NORMAL; NO PROBS OR INDICATIONS IN THE ACFT. NO ANTI-SKID LIGHTS ON; OR ABNORMAL BRAKE PRESSURE INDICATIONS. FLT FROM HNL TO NRT GROSS WT ON TKOF 710000 LBS; R XWIND ABOUT 5 KTS APPROX 76 DEGS F. ON PUSHBACK WE HAD A PROB IN HNL. THE PUSHBACK CREW STARTED OUR PUSHBACK; BUT ONLY WENT BACK A FEW FT. THEN STARTED AND STOPPED A FEW TIMES. THEY ASKED US IF WE HAD THE BRAKES SET -- WE DID NOT. THEN THEY SAID THEY HAD BORROWED THIS TUG (ANOTHER AIRLINE'S). IT WAS SMALLER AND SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH IT. WE STOOD BY UNTIL THEY GOT OUR NORMAL (LARGER) TUG. THE PUSHBACK FROM THEN ON WAS NORMAL. WE EVEN STARTED 3 ENGS ON PUSHBACK. DURING OUR TAXI IT SEEMED TO TAKE MORE PWR THAN NORMAL TO TAXI; BUT WE DECIDED THAT THIS WAS A HVY 747-100 AND THE TAXI WITH 1 ENG SHUT DOWN WAS UNDER PWRED. AT THAT TIME WE STARTED THE 4TH ENG AND HAD NO PROBS AT ALL WITH THE TAXI. ON LNDG IN NRT WE HAD A NORMAL TOUCHDOWN; BUT THE ACFT STARTED TO SLOW VERY RAPIDLY. THEN A STRONG VIBRATION. WE WERE ABLE TO PULL OFF A HIGH SPD; NEVER USING PWR. ON LNDG; 7 TIRES WERE BLOWN OUT -- ALL ON THE L SIDE. POSSIBLE PROB: A DRAGGING BRAKE. WE HAVE NO BRAKE TEMP GAUGES IN OUR -100'S SO UNABLE TO KNOW; OR A POSSIBLE ANTI-SKID PROB; WITH NO INDICATION LIGHTS IN COCKPIT. I FEEL OUR JUDGEMENTS WERE FINE. WE HAD THE PROBS IN HNL; BUT WITH EACH PROB WE HAD A REASON -- SMALL TUG AND 3 ENGS. WHEN WE GOT A LARGER TUG; WE WERE FINE AND WHEN WE STARTED OUR 4TH ENG; ALL WAS FINE. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION FROM ACN 264814: 7 TIRES LEFT RUBBER ON RWY AND THE 8TH WAS FLAT.
