WRONG RWY APCH.

Narrative

CLRED FOR VISUAL TO RWY 17 A J MCO. FO FLYING ACFT. APCH CTLR ADVISED US OF TFC LNDG ON RWY 18R. HE APPEARED ON TCASII. SWITCHED OVER TO TWR AND TCASII GIVES US AN RA. ON INITIAL CONTACT I WAS LOOKING FOR ACFT THAT WAS GIVING RA AND COULD NOT HEAR TWR DUE TO TCASII. WHEN I LOOKED AT OUR POS; NOTICED FO WAS LINED UP FOR RWY 18L. IMMEDIATELY DIRECTED ACFT TO TURN BACK TO RWY 17 AND THEN GAVE FO THE ACFT BACK. CONTACTED TWR AGAIN (OR SIMULTANEOUSLY AS WE MOVED BACK). ON LNDG; TWR SAID NO PROB. FO REALIZED THINGS DIDN'T LOOK RIGHT BUT NEVER VOICED CONCERN UNTIL WE DISCUSSED IT ON GND. ONE OF THE UNDERLYING PROBS IN THIS EVENT WAS THAT WE WERE IN A SEMI-SLAM DUNK; THUS FASTER THAN NORMAL AIRSPD. I BELIEVE THIS CAUSED THE INITIAL OVERSHOOT AND THEN WHEN CONFUSED; THE FO DID NOT IMMEDIATELY VOICE HIS CONCERN. HE IS DEFINITELY AN ABOVE AVERAGE FO WHICH PROBABLY LULLED ME INTO CONCENTRATING ON THE RA THAN OUR CURRENT SIT. I DISCOVERED WHEN I TALKED WITH TWR (ON THE PHONE) THAT THEIR INITIAL CALL WAS FOR US TO IMMEDIATELY GET BACK TO RWY 17 WHICH WAS UNHEARD DUE TO TCASII. THE LESSON I'VE LEARNED: DON'T GET COMPLACENT WITH GOOD HELP; COMMUNICATE.
