HELI APCHING TO LAND TOLD GAR BY COMPANY PLT IN OTHER ACFT. SMA TAXIING ON TXWY BELOW HELI.

Narrative

RETURNING TO HANSCOM FIELD FROM A TRAINING FLT AT BEVERLY ARPT; WE WERE NE OF THE FIELD. RWY 29 WAS IN USE; WIND NW 15-18 KTS. MY STUDENT CALLED 7 NE FOR LNDG AND WAS TOLD TO RPT 1 MI OUT. I CALLED THE TWR 1 MI E AND REQUESTED TO CROSS OVER THE FIELD AT 11000 FT TO LAND TXWY S; AND WAS CLRED TO DO SO. IT IS NORMAL OPS AT HANSCOM FOR HELIS TO LAND ON TXWYS AND FOR THE LCL CTLR TO COORDINATE WITH THE GND CTLR. SINCE THE WIND WAS FROM THE NW I TOLD MY STUDENT TO MAINTAIN ALT; CROSS OVERHEAD; MAINTAIN A SW HDG; BEGIN A DSCNT; AND THEN CIRCLE E TO LAND TXWY S INTO THE WIND. AS WE TURNED FINAL FOR TXWY S; THERE WAS NO TFC EXCEPT FOR COMPANY HELI ALSO LNDG TXWY S N OF OUR POS. COMPANY HELI LANDED; AND DEPARTED TXWY S FOR THE W RAMP AS WE CONTINUED OUR APCH. ON SHORT FINAL; ABOUT 10 FT AGL; COMPANY PLT STATED ON THE TWR FREQ; 'HELI GAR.' WITHOUT REALIZING WHY COMPANY PLT WAS TELLING ME TO GAR; I TOOK CTL FROM MY STUDENT; PULLED UP ON THE COLLECTIVE AND THEN SAW A MOONEY PASSING DIRECTLY BENEATH MY HELI IN A FAST TAXI ON TXWY S FROM S TO N. I IMMEDIATELY APPLIED R CYCLIC WHILE CONTINUING TO PULL COLLECTIVE; AND CLRED TXWY S TO THE W RAMP. AT THE MOMENT I INITIALLY PULLED COLLECTIVE PITCH; THE TWR CTLR CAME ON THE FREQ AND ASKED ME IF I HAD THE TFC (MOONEY); I REPLIED 'I DO NOW.' THE TWR CTLR APOLOGIZED. I CONTINUED TO TAXI TO THE W RAMP AND SHUT DOWN. ONCE IN THE OFFICE I WAS TOLD TO CONTACT THE TWR CTLR BY PHONE. HE APOLOGIZED AGAIN AND SAID THAT HE HAD COORDINATED TWICE WITH THE GND CTLR FOR TXWY S -- ONCE FOR COMPANY HELI; AND ONCE FOR ME. I BELIEVE THIS SIT OCCURRED BECAUSE THE GND CTLR GAVE THE MOONEY CLRNC TO TAXI WITHOUT CHKING THAT THE TWR CTLR WAS FINISHED USING TXWY S. I AM UNAWARE IF THE GND CTLR NOTIFIED THE MOONEY PLT THAT WE WERE LNDG TXWY S; OR IF THE MOONEY EVER SAW US. HE APPEARED TO BE TAXIING AT AN UNUSUALLY FAST RATE. I BELIEVE THAT AN ACTUAL COLLISION WAS AVERTED DUE TO THE QUICK ACTION OF COMPANY PLT TELLING ME TO GAR JUST PRIOR TO MY FINAL 5 FT DSCNT INTO A HOVER.
