A CPR FALCON 900 HAD TO LAND WITH ITS NOSE GEAR STUCK UP.
Narrative
CAPT OF FALCON 900; MAR/WED/94; XA40Z. NX DEPARTED DCA FOR DTW. UPON GEAR RETRACTION THERE WAS A LOUD AIR NOISE COMING FROM THE AREA OF NOSE GEAR; WITH GEAR UP INDICATION NORMAL. AFTER TALKING WITH COMPANY MAINT; WE ELECTED TO CONTINUE TO DTW. WHEN EXTENDING GEAR AT DTW; NOSE GEAR DID NOT EXTEND. CREW COMPLETED EMER GEAR EXTENSION CHKLIST; STILL NO NOSE GEAR INDICATION. I INFORMED FLT ATTENDANT AND PAX OF THE POSSIBILITY OF AN EMER LNDG. ON A FLY-BY OF DTW TWR FOR A VISUAL CHK; WE WERE INFORMED THE NOSE GEAR WAS NOT DOWN. WE NOTIFIED THE TWR AND COMPANY OPS OF OUR INTENTIONS FOR LNDG WITH THE NOSE GEAR RETRACTED. EMER EQUIP WAS IN PLACE. CREW COMPLETED ALL BRIEFING AND CHKLISTS FOR EMER LNDG AND EVAC. AT XD39Z; MAR/THU/94; NX LNDG ON RWY 3R AT DTW AND EVAC WAS COMPLETED WITH NO INJURIES AND MINOR DAMAGE TO ACFT. AT THIS TIME FAA HAS CLASSIFIED THIS AN ACCIDENT; BUT MAY RECLASSIFY WHEN DAMAGE IS ASSESSED. I HAVE FILED A NTSB RPT. IN JUDGEMENT; I BELIEVE I WAS OVERLOADING MYSELF COMMUNICATING WITH TOO MANY DIFFERENT PEOPLE (ATC; FLT ATTENDANTS; PAX; ANOTHER COMPANY ACFT IN OUR AREA; AND COMPANY OPS IN DTW). I SHOULD HAVE LET THE FO TALK TO ATC. THE FLT ATTENDANTS TO BRIEF PAX. DECISIONS: I WAS PLANNING ON MAKING THE EMER LNDG AT IAD. I ALLOWED COMPANY OPS TO TALK ME INTO BRINGING THE ACFT HOME TO DTW. I WILL RECONSIDER THAT DECISION IN THE FUTURE.
