Narrative
WE WERE FLYING PHOTO MISSIONS OVER CAMERON; MO. WHEN WE COMPLETED THE WORK WE DECIDED TO LAND AT KANSAS CITY; MO; DOWNTOWN ARPT (MKC) FOR FUEL AND FOOD. I PULLED OUT THE TCA CHART BUT DID NOT CHK THE DATE. WE DID NOT TALK TO APCH BUT DID CONTACT MKC TWR AT 35 NM TO THE NE OF MKC ARPT. AT 20 NM FROM THE MCI ARPT WE WERE AT 4500 FT MSL UNTIL APPROX KEARNEY THEN DSNDED TO 2800 FT MSL UNTIL WORLD OF FUN; THEN DSNDED TO 2200 FT MSL UNTIL WE ENTERED A R DOWNWIND TO RWY 1 AT MKC. MKC TWR NEVER MADE MENTION OF THE TCA INFRACTION. NO ACFT WAS SPOTTED BY US. I FOUND OUT ABOUT THE INFRACTION WHEN WE WERE ON OUR WAY TO JEFFERSON CITY; MO. WHEN I PULLED OUT THE TCA CHART I LOOKED AT THE EXPIRATION DATE. AT THAT POINT IN TIME; I PULLED OUT MY COMMERCIAL CHARTS AND LOOKED AT THE TERMINAL CHART AND COMPLETED THE 2 CHARTS. LESSON LEARNED: EVEN THOUGH WE MAINLY FLY IFR; MAKE SURE YOU HAVE CURRENT VFR CHARTS ON BOARD. BEFORE USING A CHART; CHK THE EXPIRATION DATE. USE APCH CTL AT EVERY OPPORTUNITY. PLEASE NOTE COPIES OF EXPIRED TCA CHART AND CURRENT TCA CHART. FLT LINE IS HIGHLIGHTED IN YELLOW WITH ALT LISTED IN RED.
