GEAR UP LNDG.
Narrative
I DEPARTED NAPLES AT PM23 LCL; ENRTE TO THE OPA LOCKA ARPT. THE FLT WAS CONDUCTED VFR WITHOUT RADAR SVC. APPROX 20 MI W OF OPF I TUNED OPF ATIS AND RECEIVED INFO. WX OBSERVED AS 1000 SCATTERED; 2200 BROKEN; 6000 OVCST WITH 12 MI VISIBILITY; TSTMS AND LIGHT RAIN; WIND 120 AT 8; ALTIMETER 29.97 WITH BREAKS IN THE OVCST AND CAUTIONS FOR BIRDS. RWY IN USE WAS 9L AND 9C. APPROX 10 MI OUT; I COMPLETED THE FINAL BEFORE LNDG CHKLIST EXCEPT FOR LNDG GEAR. I DIDN'T EXTEND THE GEAR BECAUSE I WAS STILL FAIRLY FAR OUT AND FAST. I THEN CONTACTED THE CTL TWR. THE TWR SAID 'RPT OVER THE TURNPIKE.' (THIS IS APPROX 6 MI W OF THE ARPT.) I NOTICED THAT THERE WERE TSTMS IN THE VICINITY WITH LIGHTNING STRIKES ALL AROUND THE NE THROUGH SE QUADRANTS OF THE ARPT. I WAS ALSO LISTENING TO ALL THE OTHER TFC COMING INTO THE ARPT FOR COLLISION AVOIDANCE. I ALSO HEARD OF HELI TFC TRANSITIONING NE THROUGH SW ACROSS MY FLT PATH AND LOOKED FOR THE TFC. I BEGAN TO SLOW THE ACFT DOWN AS I APCHED THE ARPT. I NORMALLY EXTEND THE LNDG GEAR AT THE PALMETTO EXPRESSWAY (APPROX 3 MI W OF THE ARPT). HOWEVER; BECAUSE OF THE ACTIVITY; I WAS DISTRACTED WHEN I CROSSED THE PALMETTO. I SET THE PWR FOR LNDG AND GUIDED THE ACFT TOWARD RWY 9L. I INTENDED TO LAND LONG; ABOUT AT THE INTXN OF G OR F AND PLANNED TO TURN OFF AT C; ABEAM THE CTL TWR. I ACTUALLY MADE A NORMAL GLIDE PATH TO THE RWY AND THEN CARRIED PWR AND FLEW THE ACFT DOWN THE RWY SO THAT TOUCHDOWN WAS NEAR G OR F. AS THE ACFT SETTLED I BELIEVE THE TAIL RING HIT FIRST. THIS WAS IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWED BY A PITCHING DOWNWARD AND THE STRIKING OF THE PROP. I IMMEDIATELY ATTEMPTED TO PULL BACK ON THE ELEVATOR AND PWR UP TO GET THE ACFT BACK IN THE AIR. HOWEVER; THAT WAS NOT SUCCESSFUL AND THE ENG STOPPED AND THE ACFT SETTLED FULLY ONTO THE RWY AND SLID SLIGHTLY L. THE TWR CALLED AND ASKED IF I WAS ALRIGHT. I SAID I WAS BUT THE AIRPLANE WASN'T. SHE STATED THAT SHE WOULD CALL THE FIRE AND RESCUE ANYWAY. I ACKNOWLEDGED. I THEN SHUT DOWN THE ELECTRICAL SYS AND FUEL.
