Synopsis

FLC OF AN ACR ACFT INADVERTENTLY OPERATED THE ACFT WHEN THE ANTI-SKID WAS MEL'ED INOP WHICH REQUIRES GNDING OF THE ACFT.

Narrative

THE ACFT WAS A B737-300 WITH 128 PAX. PRIOR TO PUSHBACK FOR DEP; THE ANTI-SKID INOP LIGHT ILLUMINATED WHEN THE PARKING BRAKE WAS SET. SINCE THE ANTI-SKID SYS IS USED TO SET THE PARKING BRAKES; I FIGURED THERE WAS A PROB WITH A SENSOR FOR THE ANTI-SKID LIGHT. THE SYS WAS WORKING PROPERLY WITH THE BRAKE RELEASED. I WROTE UP THE ANTI- SKID LIGHT IN THE ACFT LOGBOOK. MAINT CHKED THE SYS AND MEL'ED THE ANTI-SKID LIGHT USING THE ANTI-SKID SYS MEL. I CHKED THE PENALTY FOR TKOF AND DISCOVERED WE WERE NOT ABLE TO TKOF WITH INOP ANTI-SKID. HOWEVER; SINCE THE SYS WAS WORKING; THIS DID NOT APPLY. I ASKED THE MECH IF HE MEL'ED THE LIGHT. ALSO; I READ THE SIGN OFF AS AN INOP LIGHT. IN THE RUSH TO GET OUT ON TIME; I MADE TWO MISTAKES. ONE WAS NOT READING THE MEL MORE THOROUGHLY. SECOND; WAS THAT I FORGOT TO GET AN AMENDED RELEASE WITH THE MEL. IN THE AIR I RECEIVED A MESSAGE TO CONTACT DISPATCH. IN THE DISCUSSION; I WAS INFORMED THAT THE MEL IS ON THE ENTIRE SYS AND THE LIGHT COULD NOT BE SEPARATED AS AN INOP. THE SYS WORKED; BUT NOT THE LIGHT WITH PARKING BRAKES SET. ANOTHER INTERESTING ITEM IS THAT THE LIGHT WORKED PROPERLY WITH THE PARKING BRAKES SET IN CLT.
