Synopsis

MLG HAS PRESSURIZATION PROB WITH NO DOOR WARNING INDICATIONS IN THE COCKPIT. RETURN LAND.

Narrative

AFTER TKOF; PRESSURE FLOW LIGHT ON CABIN PRESSURE CTLR ILLUMINATED; ACFT WAS NOT PRESSURIZING NORMALLY. RETURNED TO CLT AND FOUND AFT GALLEY DOOR NOT SHUT PROPERLY ANNUNCIATOR PANEL AFT GALLEY DOOR LIGHT TESTED NORMALLY BOTH INFLT AND ON THE GND INDICATING AFT GALLEY DOOR WAS SHUT. UPON INSPECTION IN CLT; DOOR WAS NOT FLUSH WITH FUSELAGE BUT MADE CONTACT WITH MICRO SWITCH FOR DOOR WARNING LIGHT. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR STATES THAT HE HAS FLOWN THE MD 80 FOR 8 YRS AND NEVER HAD THIS HAPPEN BEFORE. MECH; HOWEVER; TOLD HIM IT HAD HAPPENED ONCE BEFORE TO HIS KNOWLEDGE. ANOTHER MECH SHOWED RPTR HOW THE DOOR CAN BE CLOSED; LOCKED; AND STILL NOT BE PROPERLY SEATED. WHEN HE TRIED IT; THE DOOR WAS 2 INCHES INSIDE THE FUSELAGE. DISCUSSION DETERMINED IT MAY WELL BE THE CATERERS CLOSING THE DOOR FROM THE OUTSIDE. RPTR BELIEVES THIS IS A POTENTIAL DISASTER AND SHOULD BE CORRECTED. AT ANALYST URGING HE IS GOING TO FOLLOW THROUGH WITH HIS COMPANY AND POSSIBLY ALPA.
