FLC RESPONSE TO ENG FIRE WARNING WAS TO HAVE ACFT EVACED.
Narrative
WE WERE IN ACFT ON RWY 11L AT MSP IN 'POS AND HOLD' READY TO DEPART FOR ATW OUR DEST ON FLT. AS THE TWR CTLR CLRED US TO DEPART RWY 11L AT MSP; THE R FIRE WARNING CAME ON WITH A FULL WARNING; 'FIRE LIGHT -- RED FLASHERS -- AND A FIRE BELL.' I ASKED MY FO IF SHE SAW ANY FIRE OUT THE R SIDE OF THE ACFT; AND SHE SAID THAT THERE WAS NO INDICATION OF A FIRE. NEXT; I TOLD THE TWR CTLR THAT WE HAD A FIRE INDICATION ON THE R ENG AND ASKED HIM IF HE SAW ANYTHING. HE REPLIED THAT HE DID NOT SEE ANY FIRE AND THAT WE WERE CLRED TO GO; TFC WAS ON A 3 MI FINAL FOR OUR RWY. THEN ANOTHER ACFT IN LINE FOR DEP TO OUR RWY CALLED OUT 'YOU HAVE SOME SMOKE COMING OUT' AND CUT OUT THE XMISSION. AT THAT TIME I PULLED THE FEATHER LEVER FOR THE R ENG AND THEN TURNED AND PULLED THE FEATHER LEVER FOR THE L ENG WHICH SHUT DOWN BOTH ENGS. NEXT I CALLED TWR BACK; AND TOLD HIM WE HAVE A FIRE INDICATION ON THE R ENG AND TO SEND CFR; WE ARE GETTING OUT. I THEN OPENED THE COCKPIT DOOR AND TOLD THE 17 PAX TO EXIT THE ACFT OUT THE L SIDE AND PROCEED AWAY FROM THE ACFT. THE PAX WERE OUT OF THE ACFT IN RECORD TIME; THE CFR HAD ALREADY ARRIVED WITH 3 TRUCKS IN FRONT OF OUR ACFT. MY FO AND I RAN OUR 'EMER EVAC' CHKLIST ALL THE WAY THROUGH; EXCEPT FOR THE FIRE BOTTLES. WITH BOTH ENGS SHUT DOWN AND FUEL OFF; PAX OFF THE ACFT; CFR AROUND THE ACFT; AND NO REAL INDICATION OF A FIRE; WE DECIDED NOT TO FIRE THE BOTTLES AND SHUT PWR OFF AND EVAC THE ACFT OURSELVES. ONCE OUTSIDE WE COUNTED 17 PAX; AND NOTED NO INJURIES TO ANY OF THE PAX. FROM THAT POINT WE GAVE THE ACFT TO CFR TO HANDLE AND NO FURTHER PROBS WERE NOTED.
