Narrative

737-300 AND 737-300 LEADING EDGE TKOF FLAPS 1 DEG; 5 DEGS; 15 DEGS 737-400 TKOF FLAPS 5 DEGS; 15 DEGS. FLT IN QUESTION 737-400. TAXI OUT WT AND BAL ON ACARS FLAPS WERE SET FLAPS 5 DEGS -- COMPANY PROCS. FO NOTED HIGH TKOF SPDS/WT. SAID 'WE NEED TO USE FLAPS 1 DEG.' WE USED RWY 1 AT SFO AND HE MISREAD RWY 1 AND SPDS AS FLAPS 1 DEG AND V-SPDS; FURTHER REINFORCING IN HIS MIND FLAPS 1 DEG BEING CORRECT. NEITHER ONE OF US REMEMBERED AT THIS TIME THE 400 SERIES RESTR. WHILE TAXIING OUT I NOTED THE PAX TOTAL; FUEL AND GROSS WT AND AGREED FLAPS 1 DEG CORRECT. CHKLIST COMPLETED. TKOF PWR SET; TKOF WARNING SOUNDED. ABORTED TKOF; CHKED CONFIGN -- ALL APPEARED NORMAL. RETURNED TO GATE AND WROTE UP WHAT WE THOUGHT WAS WRONG IN ACFT LOG. MAINT THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE STABILIZER TRIM SWITCH. CHKED; CLEANED SWITCH. DID TKOF WARNING CHK; THIS TIME WITH FLAPS 5 DEGS -- ALL WAS NORMAL. THEN I REMEMBERED THE 400 RESTR OF FLAPS 5 DEGS/15 DEGS AND BROUGHT IT TO THE ATTN OF THE FO. POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS: PLACARD BY THE FLAP GAUGE STATING FLAP 5 DEGS/15 DEGS ONLY. A LESS BUSY ACARS FLAP SETTING V-SPD PAGE -- EASIER TO READ; LESS CHANCE OF ERRORS. A SHORT LIST OF DIFFERENCES OF THE 400 TO REVIEW PRIOR TO FLT. STOP ACFT AND BOTH PLTS CHK ACARS TKOF DATA TO BE IN AGREEMENT WITH CORRECT TKOF DATA FLAPS!
