Narrative

3-MAN CREW (MISSION COMMANDER -- PLT; COPLT/OBSERVER; AND OBSERVER) WAS ENGAGED IN SURVEILLANCE FLT (CIVIL AIR PATROL/CUSTOMS/DEA SURVEILLANCE) ALONG CA/NV BORDER. FLT WAS TO BE DIVERTED TOWARDS PORTERVILLE; CA. DUE TO TSTM ACTIVITY OVER THE SIERRAS (S OF MT WHITNEY) FLT WAS PARALLELING MOUNTAIN CHAIN ON E SIDE AND ALONG THE W SIDE OF THE CHINA LAKE RESTR AREA. VERY TURB. BACK SEAT CREW MEMBER BECAME ILL.DUE TO HIS AGE AND HEALTH; I THOUGHT HE MIGHT ASPIRATE AND ACTUALLY BE IN GRAVE DANGER. I TURNED ACFT OVER TO A LOW TIME PLT (94 HRS PIC). HE WAS NOT FAMILIAR WITH CURRENT NAV SIT AND TRIED TO KEEP ACFT LEVEL AND MOVE AWAY FROM TURB NEAR MOUNTAIN CHAIN. WHILE I WAS OTHERWISE OCCUPIED; HE VIOLATED THE CHINA LAKE RESTR AREA. VERY TURBULENT. AS SOON AS I WAS ABLE; I TOOK CTL OF THE ACFT AND REALIZED WE HAD FLOWN THROUGH THE RESTR AREA. I THEN CALLED JOSHUA APCH AND TOLD THEM ABOUT THE MEDICAL EMER. I WAS ASKED TO CALL UPON LNDG. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 272058: ATTEMPTING TO HOLD DIRECT FLT TO VGT HDG 078. NOT TAKING INTO FULL ACCOUNT THE WINDS ALOFT; STRAYED INTO R-2505 SPACE. DISCOVERED MISTAKE BY RECONTACTING JOSHUA APCH. LEVEL FLT AWAY FROM RIDGE NEAR SIERRAS SETTLED DOWN THE GI DISTRESS OF PLT AND LATER THE PAX IMPROVED AS WELL. AS A LOW TIME PLT; I FEEL RESPONSIBLE FOR ACTIONS AND LEARNED A VALUABLE LESSON IN AVOIDANCE OF RESTR AIRSPACE.
