Narrative
AFTER LNDG IN DTW (ROUTINE FLT FROM GRB-DTW) THE TWR ASKED ME (THE CAPT) TO CALL ON THE TELEPHONE -- I DID. HE ASKED WHY WE DID NOT RESPOND TO THE XMISSION TO GAR.' WE DID NOT HEAR ANY XMISSION TO GAR. WE CHKED IN WITH THE TWR ABOUT 7 1/2 MI ON FINAL. AT THAT TIME WE WERE CLRED TO LAND AND TOLD THERE WOULD BE 1 DEP ACFT PRIOR TO OUR ARR BTWN US AND THE ACFT LNDG AHEAD. WE SAW THE COMPANY 727 TAKE POS ON RWY 21R AND THE LNDG ACFT CLR THE RWY. NEITHER OF US WERE CONCERNED. THE SPACING DID NOT SEEM TOO TIGHT. ABOUT 200 FT OR AFTER THE 200 FT ALT CALL; I MADE THE COMMENT TO WATCH OUT FOR JET BLAST FROM THAT GUY TAKING OFF. IT STILL APPEARED THAT HE WOULD BE OFF THE RWY PRIOR TO OUR TOUCHDOWN. WE BOTH KNEW IT WAS A CLOSE; TIGHT SEQUENCE. ANYWAY ABOUT 20 FT OR JUST SECONDS PRIOR TO TOUCHDOWN; THE TWR SAID SOMETHING LIKE 'ACR XYZ CLRED TO LAND.' WE BOTH THOUGHT THIS VERY ODD SINCE WE HAD ALREADY BEEN CLRED. THE TWR (ON THE TELEPHONE) SAID THEY HAD TOLD US TO GAR. EITHER IT WAS STEPPED ON OR WE DID NOT HEAR IT BECAUSE OF NORMAL COCKPIT CALLS. PERHAPS IF THE CTLR HAD USED A MORE URGENT TONE OF VOICE OR REPEATED HIMSELF WE WOULD HAVE HEARD IT.
