AN AZTEC PLT TAXIED ONTO A ROADWAY.

Narrative

EVEN THOUGH THIS EVENT WAS VERY MINOR WITH NO DAMAGE; I DO FEEL THERE IS AN ISSUE OF SAFETY HERE. I WAS IN A RENTED PIPER AZTEC. THE TAXI LIGHT WAS INOP. THE LNDG LIGHT; NAV LIGHTS AND ROTATING BEACON WERE ALL ON AND OPERATIONAL. AFTER RECEIVING MY CLRNC; I WAS INSTRUCTED BY LAS GND TO TAXI FROM THE FBO RAMP TO RWY 19R. I INQUIRED AS TO WHICH TXWYS TO USE; I WAS TOLD TO TAXI STRAIGHT OUT VIA ECHO. I WAS HAVING DIFFICULTY SEEING THE AREA IMMEDIATELY IN FRONT OF THE PLANE DUE TO THE LONG NOSE; AND INOP TAXI LIGHT; AND DIMLY LIT SURROUNDINGS. I RECALL SEEING A LOW SURFACE MOUNTED SIGN. IT WAS RED WITH A WHITE HORIZ LINE. I HAD NEVER SEEN A SIGN LIKE THIS BEFORE AND WAS UNSURE WHAT IT MEANT. I DIDN'T THINK MUCH OF IT AND CONTINUED MY TAXI. I MISSED THE TURNOFF TO RWY 19R RUNUP AREA AND CONTINUED TAXIING STRAIGHT OUT APPROX 100 FT DOWN A GND VEHICLE ACCESS ROAD; WHICH RAN PARALLEL TO THE TXWY. I REALIZED MY MISTAKE WHEN I NOTICED BLUE TXWY LIGHTS ONLY ON MY R SIDE; AND NON ON THE L (THESE LIGHTS WERE ON THE L EDGE OF THE PARALLEL TXWY). A TUG FROM A LCL FBO WAS USED TO PUSH US BACKWARD BACK TO THE TXWY. THAT'S WHEN I NOTICED ANOTHER SIGN DIRECTLY BEHIND THE RED AND WHITE SIGN I MENTIONED EARLIER. THIS SECOND SIGN READ 'NO ACFT BEYOND THIS POINT.' I DIDN'T SEE THIS SIGN EARLIER. IT WAS OBSTRUCTED BY THE FIRST SIGN. I FEEL THERE IS A SAFETY ISSUE HERE BECAUSE SOMEBODY FROM GND OPS TOLD ME WE WERE VERY LUCK WE DIDN'T GET HIT BY A FAST MOVING TRUCK OR VAN ON THE DARK UNLIT ACCESS ROAD.
