UNAUTH RWY ENTRY. TRAINING IN PROGRESS.
Narrative
BACKGND ON GFK CREW BASE. THE GFK CREW BASE USES UNIVERSITY OF NORTH DAKOTA TRAINED CHINESE PLTS WITH APPROX 300-400 HRS AS COPLTS. THE CHINESE ARE VERY INTELLIGENT PEOPLE; HOWEVER; RUSHED TRAINING AND LOW EXPERIENCE LEAVES THEM WITH VERY MARGINAL FLT SKILLS. EVEN VFR LOW WIND LNDGS ARE DIFFICULT AND REQUIRE 'SHADOW FLYING' BY THE PIC IN THE CASE OF MOST COPLTS. FOR THIS REASON; EACH FLT IS A TRAINING FLT WHICH LEADS TO MY MISTAKE THOUGH GOOD INTENTIONS WERE INVOLVED. IT WAS MY FO'S LNDG TURN WITH A STRONG XWIND FROM THE L FOR RWY 35L (GUSTS TO 20 KTS). WITH SOME ASSISTANCE BY PIC AN UNEVENTFUL LNDG WAS MADE WITH EXIT FROM RWY 35L N OF XING RWY 8/26. 'AFTER LAND' CHKLIST WAS COMPLETED AND GND CONTACTED. GND ADVISED TO THE S TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 8/26 WHICH WAS BEING USED FOR TRAINING. THE CLRNC WAS READ BACK AND CLRLY UNDERSTOOD BY MYSELF. DURING TAXI I MISTAKENLY STARTED TO EVALUATE WITH MY FO HIS LNDG TO HELP HIS LEARNING PROCESS. THIS 'ON THE JOB TRAINING' DISTRACTED ME FROM MY TAXI. I CROSSED THE HOLD SHORT LINE AND THANKS TO AN ALERT GND CTLR AND MY USUAL SLOW TAXI SPD I STOPPED SHORT OF THE RWY ON THE SECOND ALERT FROM THE CTLR. I HAD NOT FORGOTTEN THE CLRNC TO 'HOLD' BUT THOUGHT THE RWY WAS A TXWY UNTIL I SPOTTED THE WHITE; NOT YELLOW; STRIPE XING MY NOSE. THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN CLRLY RECOGNIZED WITHOUT THE DISTR I CREATED ON MY OWN. IN THE FUTURE; I MUST RECOGNIZE PART 135.100 AS DISCUSSION RELATING ONLY TO SAFETY AS PERTAINING TO THE IMMEDIATE SIT. THE SAFETY RELATED ITEM I WAS DEALING WITH HAD TO DO WITH A FUTURE LNDG. THIS DISCUSSION MUST HAPPEN AT THE GATE AFTER SHUTDOWN.
