Narrative

I WAS ON A FIBER OPTIC CABLE PATROL FLT. I HAD CALLED BNA APCH AND WAS BEING GIVEN RADAR SVCS. ABOUT 8 MI AFTER RADAR CONTACT APCH ASKED ME IF ANOTHER PLANE WAS FLYING WITH ME; TO WHICH I ANSWERED NO. HE THEN ADVISED ME OF TFC AT MY ALT 1/4 MI AT MY 6 O'CLOCK POS AND FLYING THE SAME DIRECTION. I KICKED THE TAIL AROUND TO LOOK BEHIND ME BUT DID NOT SEE ANYTHING UNTIL HE PASSED MY L WING AT 50 FT. IT WAS A RED/WHITE PA-31 WITH WINGLETS. THAT ACFT THEN CONTINUED ON AND LANDED AT CORNELIA FORT ARPT. I DO NOT BELIEVE THE OTHER ACFT SAW ME. WE WERE BOTH BELOW THE OUTER RING OF THE CLASS C AIRSPACE SO HE DID NOT HAVE TO BE IN CONTACT WITH BNA APCH. I LATER TRIED TO CONTACT HIM ON 122.8 BUT NEVER HEARD A XMISSION; EVEN WHEN HE WAS IN THE PATTERN AT CORNELIA FORT. TO AVOID THE SIT I FEEL THAT ATC COULD HAVE ADVISED ME EARLIER OF THE TFC SINCE THEY WERE NOT BUSY AT THE TIME AND TRYING TO SEE SOMEONE DIRECTLY BEHIND YOU IS DIFFICULT. I ALSO FEEL THAT THE OTHER PLT SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH ATC SINCE IT IS A RELATIVELY BUSY AIRSPACE AND HE HAD A FAST PISTON TWIN AIRPLANE.
