CONFLICT BTWN AN SMT AND SMA AFTER BOTH ACFT WERE TAKING OFF FROM OPPOSITE ENDS OF THE SAME RWY.

Narrative

I WAS DEPARTING RWY 9 AT CARSON CITY; NO WIND CONDITIONS. 1 OTHER ACFT WAS RPTED 6 MI S; PLANNING TO LAND RWY 27; AT TIME OF DEP I HAD THAT ACFT IN SIGHT. I ALSO HEARD UNICOM GIVE STANDARD ADVISORY TO THAT ACFT. I HEARD NO MORE RADIO COM UNTIL I STARTED ROLLING DOWN THE RWY. AT THAT TIME ACFT IN THE AIR SAID 'I HOPE YOU 2 MEET AT THE CTR' PRIOR TO TAKING THE RWY I ADVISED CARSON UNICOM I WAS 'DEPARTING RWY 9 AND WOULD BE NEBOUND.' NO RESPONSE OR ACKNOWLEDGEMENT WAS RECEIVED. AT TIME OF DEP; I COULD SEE NO ACFT ON THE GND OR IN THE AIR IN THE VICINITY OF RWY 25 THRESHOLD. THERE APPEARED TO BE A SLIGHT HUMP IN THE MIDDLE OF RWY THAT PREVENTS ONE FROM SEEING THE OTHER END. AFTER GOING APPROX 500-1000 FT DOWN RWY 9; I SAW ANOTHER ACFT ON THE RWY. I DON'T KNOW WHETHER IT WAS LNDG OR TAKING OFF. AT THE INSTANT THIS HAPPENED MY EYE BECAME FIXED ON THIS ACFT (SINGLE ENG; LOW WING). THOUGHT I WAS NEAR ROTATION SPD AND I WOULD DEPART AND CLB TO THE R OVER HIM. I TRIED TO BECOME AIRBORNE AND MY PLANE WOULD NOT FLY. SHORTLY AFTER THAT; THE OTHER ACFT TOOK OFF AND CLBED TO HIS R. THE 2 AIRPLANES WERE APPROX 1000-1500 FT APART AT THIS TIME. LOOKING BACK ON SIT; I SHOULD HAVE USED THE NORMAL CALM WIND RWY AND SHOULD HAVE CUT PWR AND APPLIED BRAKES AS SOON AS OTHER ACFT BECAME VISIBLE. THE OTHER ACFT BEING IN RADIO CONTACT WOULD HAVE HELPED.
