TAXIING THROUGH STANDING WATER ENG INGESTS ENOUGH WATER TO START ENG SHUT DOWN.
Narrative
THE DAYTON AIR AND TRADE SHOW ACTIVITIES CHANGED THE NORMAL TAXI RTE FROM THE TERMINAL TO RWY 24L. TSTMS/SHOWERS HAD BEEN XING THE ARPT. WE WERE DIRECTED TO TAXI FROM THE TERMINAL VIA B AND F TO RWY 24L. JUST AFTER XING RWY 26/18 WE TAXIED INTO STANDING WATER THAT WAS DEEPER THAN FIRST APPEARANCE. AS THE NOSE TIRES (BAE 3100) HIT THE WATER IT SPLASHED UP A SURPRISINGLY LARGE AMOUNT. THIS; COMBINED WITH PROP INTERACTION SENT ENOUGH SPRAY THROUGH THE L ENG TURBINE INTAKE TO CAUSE THE ENG TO START SHUTTING DOWN. IN ORDER TO PREVENT A POTENTIALLY FUEL RISK RE-ESTABLISHMENT OF IGNITION; I ELECTED TO COMPLETELY SHUTDOWN THE ENG AS A NORMAL SHUTDOWN BY SELECTING 'STOP' AND THEN RETARDING THE PWR LEVER TO THE REVERSE 'POS.' A MOMENTARY VAPOR (STEAM?) EXHAUST WAS NOTED AND MENTIONED BY DAY GND CTL ON 121.9. WE ADVISED THAT WE WERE AWARE OF IT. SUBSEQUENTLY; WE PULLED INTO THE RWY 24L RUNUP AREA AND PERFORMED A RESTART. THIS RESTART AND SUBSEQUENT ENG RUNUP TO PWR WERE NORMAL. SINCE THE SHUTDOWN WAS COMPLETED NORMALLY AND SUBSEQUENT RESTART AND PWR WERE NORMAL; WE CONTINUED OUR SCHEDULED FLT.
