THE L MAIN GEAR COLLAPSED AFTER TOUCH DOWN.
Narrative
MADE NORMAL LNDG; PLANE TRAVELED APPROX 800 FT DOWN RWY AND SLOWED TO PLUS OR MINUS 50 KTS. STARTED TO BRAKE FOR UPCOMING TAXI EXIT. L WING SUDDENLY DROPPED TO GND; ACFT SPUN PLUS OR MINUS 30 DEGS TO L; PROP HIT THE GND. ACFT SLIDE FOR APPROX 125 FT BEFORE COMING TO A STOP. EXECUTING PRE-PLAN; PLT AND PAX IMMEDIATELY EXITED PLANE. PROB APPEARS TO BE MECH FAILURE IN L GEAR. ANNUAL ON PLANE NOV/XX/93: HRS -- 729. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE ACFT IS A MOONEY 231; BUILT IN 1985. THE RPTR STATES THAT THE STOP SWITCH IN THE L GEAR FAILED ALLOWING THE RETRACT/EXTEND DC MOTOR TO BREAK THE L GEAR EXTENSION TUBE. THE WING DROPPED CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE L TIP; PITOT TUBE; L FLAP COVERS; BELLY PAN; ETC. THE PROP STRUCK THE PAVEMENT DAMAGING THE PROP AND REQUIRING AN ENG TEARDOWN DUE TO SUDDEN STOPPAGE. THE FAILED L GEAR EXTENSION TUBE HAS BEEN SENT TO THE MANUFACTURER FOR ANALYSIS. THE RESULTS HAVE NOT YET BEEN RECEIVED BY THE RPTR. THE RPTR IS NOT HAPPY TO HAVE THIS MUCH DAMAGE IN A RELATIVELY NEW ACFT -- ONLY 729 HRS AND ABOUT 450 CYCLES.
