LOW FLT OVER ACFT ON RWY AT NON TWR ARPT.

Narrative

I WAS GIVING AIRPLANE RIDES THE MORNING OF AUG/XX/94. I GAVE MY LAST RIDE AND INVITED SOME FRIENDS TO GO FOR AIRPLANE RIDES. I GAVE A TOTAL OF 2 RIDES WITH 5 FRIENDS IN THE AIRPLANE ON EACH RIDE. WHEN THEY ARRIVED THEY ASKED TO TAKE SOME PICTURES OF THE AIRPLANE IN FLT. I INFORMED THEM THAT IF THEY STOOD ON THE RAMP I WOULD FLY OVER THE RWY AT A LOW ALT SO THEY COULD GET THE PICTURES. I TOOK OFF INTO THE WIND ON RWY 26; CLBED TO 500 FT AGL AND TURNED THE ACFT AROUND AND LINED UP ON FINAL FOR RWY 08. I FLEW THE LENGTH OF THE RWY AT A LOW ALT. WHEN I REACHED THE END I MADE AN ABRUPT PULL UP AND CLBED 600 FT. WE NEXT DID SOME SIGHT SEEING AND RETURNED TO THE ARPT AND LANDED RWY 26. I THEN DEPLANED 5 PAX AND LOADED 5 MORE INTO THE AIRPLANE. I AGAIN TOOK OFF RWY 26 AND CLBED TO 500 FT AGL. THEN I TURNED THE AIRPLANE AROUND AND LINED UP ON FINAL FOR RWY 08 FOR ANOTHER LOW PASS. ON THIS PASS WHEN I WAS HALF WAY DOWN THE RWY A CESSNA 172 ANNOUNCED THAT HE WOULD BE DEPARTING RWY 26. I SAW THE AIRPLANE AND ASKED HIM TO HOLD UNTIL I WAS CLR OF THE RWY. THE CESSNA MOVED INTO POS AND HELD ON RWY 26. I ASCENDED SLIGHTLY TO APPROX 75 FT AGL AND PASSED OVER THE STATIONARY CESSNA. AFTER THE PASS WE DID SOME SIGHT SEEING AND RETURNED FOR LNDG. I BELIEVE WHAT CAUSED THIS PROB WAS A PLT GIVING IN TO OTHERS REQUESTS TO IMPRESS THEM WITH HIS FLYING ABILITY THROUGH SHOW BOATING. THIS IN ACTUALITY SHOWS VERY POOR JUDGEMENT WHICH MAKES FOR A VERY POOR PLT. THIS EVENT WENT WITHOUT AN ACCIDENT; INCIDENT; OR OCCURRENCE ONLY DUE TO PURE LUCK. HAD I NOT SAW OR HEARD THE CESSNA RPT FOR DEP OR HAD THE CESSNA NOT RPTED OR SAW MY AIRPLANE THERE COULD HAVE BEEN A SERIOUS PROB. I HAVE LEARNED A VALUABLE LESSON ABOUT MATURITY AND ASK EVERYONE IN THE AVIATION COMMUNITY TO REFRAIN FROM SUCH ACTIVITY AND DISCOURAGE FELLOW AVIATORS FROM SHOW BOATING. WHAT I WILL DO TO CORRECT THIS SIT IN THE FUTURE IS TO SAY WHAT MY FLT INSTRUCTOR WOULD SAY WHEN FRIENDS REQUESTED HIM TO SHOWBOAT. 'I DON'T NEED TO TAKE THAT RISK TO PROVE MY FLYING ABILITIES; I JUST NEED TO SHOW YOU THE CERTIFICATES AND RATINGS IN MY WALLET.'
