RPTR AND HIS CAPT EXPERIENCED GENERATOR FAILURE RESULTING IN MANUAL GEAR EXTENSION AND THE NORMAL GEAR DOWN INDICATOR LIGHTS NOT ILLUMINATING.

Synopsis

RPTR AND HIS CAPT EXPERIENCED GENERATOR FAILURE RESULTING IN MANUAL GEAR EXTENSION AND THE NORMAL GEAR DOWN INDICATOR LIGHTS NOT ILLUMINATING.

Narrative

THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED WHILE WE WERE ENRTE FROM BHM TO RDU WITH THE INTENTIONS OF LNDG AT THE CUSTOMERS AIR STRIP; OR EWN. AT AN APPROX DISTANCE OF ABOUT 25-30 MI OUT FROM RDU; MY CAPT NOTICED THAT THE R GENERATOR LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE CAPT THEN TOLD ME TO FLY THE AIRPLANE WHILE HE ATTEMPTED TO TROUBLE-SHOOT THE SYS. I RECALL HIM GOING THROUGH THE CHKLIST WHILE TRYING TO RESET THE FAILED GENERATOR. WHEN THE CAPT ATTEMPTED TO RESET THE BUS CIRCUIT BREAKER WE LOST OUR HEADER TANK FUEL GAUGES; TRANSFER PUMP INDICATORS; AND VARIOUS OTHER EQUIP. THE CAPT THEN STATED THAT HE WANTED TO LAND AT RDU. APCH GAVE US VECTORS FOR THE ILS RWY 23L APCH. DURING THE APCH SEQUENCE THE CAPT CALLED FOR GEAR DOWN AND FINAL APCH CHKS. AT THIS TIME WE NOTICED THAT THE GEAR WAS NOT DOWN AS WE DID NOT HAVE ANY 'GEAR DOWN' INDICATOR LIGHTS. WE THEN MADE A LOW PASS OVER THE RDU TWR TO GAIN A VISUAL OBSERVATION OF OUR GEAR STATUS. DURING THE NEXT FEW MINS I WAS ATTEMPTING TO MANUALLY CRANK THE LNDG GEAR INTO THE DOWN POS. WHILE IN THE VICINITY OF THE RDU ARPT WE ALSO NOTICED THAT THE ' R AUX FUEL LIGHT' WAS ILLUMINATING ERRATICALLY. WHEN PERFORMING THE MANUAL GEAR EXTENSION I NOTICED THAT THE 'GEAR IN TRANSITION' LIGHT WAS LIT. ONCE THE GEAR WAS ASSUMED TO BE DOWN AND LOCKED THE 'GEAR IN TRANSITION' LIGHT WENT OUT: HOWEVER; THE NORMAL LNDG GEAR DOWN INDICATORS (3 GREEN) DID NOT LIGHT. THE CAPT INITIATED THE MANUAL GEAR EXTENSION AND ALSO SUPERVISED THE COMPLETION OF THIS PROC. AT THIS TIME I EXPRESSED MY CONCERNS TO THE CAPT REGARDING ANY ATTEMPT TO LAND WITHOUT THE PROPER GEAR DOWN INDICATIONS. WHEN ALL CHKLISTS AND APPLICABLE EMER PROCS WERE COMPLETE WE THEN LANDED WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT AT RDU.
