UNAUTH LNDG AFTER WDB EXPERIENCES A LIGHTNING STRIKE ON APCH.

Narrative

LANDED IN ORD ON RWY 14R WITHOUT RECEIVING LNDG CLRNC FROM TWR. I BELIEVE THE EVENT OCCURRED DUE TO SEVERAL FACTORS. THE CREW WAS MADE UP OF MYSELF; FO WHO WAS A SENIOR MGMNT CAPT AND RESERVE SO. THE WX AND TFC WAS HVY WHEN WE WERE CLRED FOR APCH. WE WERE TOLD TO KEEP SPD UP TILL OM AND SWITCH TO TWR AT MARKER. JUST PRIOR TO MARKER AT ABOUT 2800 FT; 8 DME ON ILS; WE HAD A LIGHTNING STRIKE WHICH CAUSED A MOMENTARY LOSS OF NAV INSTS. THIS EVENT I BELIEVE CAUSED THE FO NOT TO SWITCH OVER TO THE TWR AND I FORGOT TO VERIFY THAT WE HAD RECEIVED A LNDG CLRNC. I LANDED AND ROLLED OUT NORMALLY AND REALIZED WE WERE STILL ON APCH CTL FREQ. WE SWITCHED TO TWR FREQ AND WERE ASKED IF WE RECEIVED THE GREEN LIGHT -- WE SAID WE DID! SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 283862:I TOOK ACFT AND FLEW UNTIL HE RETUNED HIS ILS; ALONG WITH THE STRIKE; WE HAD LIGHT/MODERATE TURB AND GUSTY WINDS. AFTER TOUCHDOWN I DISCOVERED THAT I HAD NOT CONTACTED THE TWR AND WE HAD LANDED WITHOUT A CLRNC. UPON CONTACTING THE TWR. THEY THOUGHT WE HAD A COM PROB AND ASKED IF WE HAD SEEN THE GREEN LIGHT. OF COURSE; I REPLIED THAT WE HAD! WHEN CONFRONTED BY A COMPLEX (YET FAMILIAR) CLRNCS AND STARTLED OR DISTR EVEN EXPERIENCED PLTS CAN MAKE FUNDAMENTAL MISTAKES.
