SMA ACFT DAMAGED BY SPI IN HARD LNDG.

Narrative

I WAS FLYING BACK TO PALOMAR ARPT (CRQ) FROM THE VISTA AREA PRACTICING AIR WORK WHEN THE TWR AT PALOMAR ANNOUNCED THAT PALOMAR WOULD BE CLOSED FOR AT LEAST AN HR DUE TO AN INCIDENT ON THE RWY. I PREVIOUSLY HEARD THE TWR ATTEMPT TO TELL AN AIRMAN THAT HIS LNDG GEAR WASN'T DOWN TWICE. THIS WAS DISCONCERTING TO ME SINCE I DIDN'T KNOW HOW LONG THE ARPT WOULD BE CLOSED; NOR THE EXTENT OF THE ACCIDENT. PLUS THE PLANE WAS DUE BACK AT XXPM; IN 30 MINS. THERE WAS LIGHT TURB BECAUSE IT WAS A HOT AFTERNOON. I DECIDED TO GO TO FALLBROOK (L18) BECAUSE I HAD MADE SEVERAL LNDGS THE WKEND BEFORE IN THE SAME PLANE AND MANY LNDGS EARLIER DURING MY TRAINING AT THIS ARPT. I CALLED FOR ADVISORIES OVER VISTA AND THEN I ENTERED THE PATTERN ON THE 45 DEG ENTRY. I CALLED AGAIN WHEN I WAS ON THE L DOWNWIND AND WHEN I MADE MY BASE TURN AND TURN TO FINAL. I CAME IN WITH FULL FLAPS; SPD APPROX 70 KTS AND LANDED HARD. I BOUNCED 2 MORE TIMES. I SHOULD HAVE PUT IN PWR AND FLOWN AROUND AS I NOW REMEMBER MY INSTRUCTOR TELLING ME TO DO SO PREVIOUSLY; BUT I DIDN'T. I GOT OUT OF THE PLANE AND SAW THAT THE NOSE WHEEL HAD BROKEN OFF. THE PLANE CAME TO A STOP SHORT OF THE ARPT OFFICE SO I HAD PLENTY OF ROOM TO CLB OUT.
