ULTRALIGHT DOES TOUCH AND GOES AT ARPT WITH OPERATING CTL TWR WITH NO TWR CONTACT.

Narrative

I HADN'T FLOWN MY ULTRALIGHT (BASED AT CHANDLER ARPT) IN ABOUT 9 MONTHS. I FLEW E FROM CHANDLER TO THE E END OF THE VALLEY AND SKIRTED MY WAY AROUND WILLIAMS ON MY WAY E. I WANTED TO LAND AT WILLIAMS WITH MY ULTRALIGHT SINCE THE LAST TIME I LANDED THERE HAD BEEN 24 YRS EARLIER WHEN I GRADUATED FROM WILLIAMS AFB. I KNEW THE MIL BASE HAD BEEN CLOSED FOR 1 1/2 YRS. I ALSO CHKED A FREQ CHART AT CHANDLER ARPT; AND IT LISTED WILLIAMS MUNICIPAL AS UNCTLED WITH A UNICOM (122.4). MY MISTAKE WAS NOT LOOKING FURTHER TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE FREQ CHART. THERE I WOULD HAVE FOUND WILLIAMS GATEWAY WHICH IS WHAT THE OLD WILLIAMS AFB IS NOW CALLED. THE WILLIAMS MUNICIPAL UNCTLED FIELD REFERS TO THE WILLIAMS ARPT AT WILLIAMS IN NORTHERN ARIZONA. A NAME CHANGE FOR ONE OR THE OTHER MIGHT HELP IN THE FUTURE. I SHOULD HAVE ASKED AND NOT ASSUMED ABOUT WILLIAMS AFB BEING STILL SHUT DOWN. WHEN I FLEW PAST THE ARPT AND WHEN I CAME BACK AGAIN THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO ACTIVITY WHATSOEVER ON THE RAMP OR IN THE AIR NOR WAS THERE ANY LIGHTS FROM THE TWR. I DID 2 TOUCH AND GOES TO THE CTR RWY; FLEW PAST THE TWR; AND THEN RETURNED TO CHANDLER ARPT. UPON LNDG THE ARPT MGR TOLD ME MY TRANSGRESSIONS AND TO CALL WILLIAMS GATEWAY TWR WHICH I DID TO EXPLAIN MYSELF; APOLOGIZE; AND PROMISE NEVER TO DO IT AGAIN.
