Synopsis

RPTR TAKING CHK RIDE; IOE CHK AIRMAN IN THE R SEAT; DID NOT HEAR CLRNC REQUIRING TURN 360 DEGS AFTER TKOF AND FLEW RWY HDG.

Narrative

THIS WAS THE SECOND FLT ON DAY 2 OF A 3-DAY TRIP. I WAS BEING GIVEN IOE AND I WAS ACTING AS THE PIC. THE IOE CHK AIRMAN OBTAINED THE CLRNC FROM ATC CLRNC DELIVERY. ALTHOUGH I WAS PRESENT IN THE COCKPIT; I DID NOT HEAR THE CLRNC. WE WERE CLRED TO BTV VIA THE LGA 6 DEP; AS FILED; MAINTAIN 5000 FT. HDG ASSIGNED BY CLRNC DELIVERY WAS 360 DEGS. IT WAS MY LEG TO FLY AND I DID THE DEP CREW BRIEF. I BRIEFED...HDG ASSIGNED BY ATC...ETC. I DID NOT SPECIFICALLY BRIEF THE 360 DEG HDG ASSIGNMENT; AS I DID NOT KNOW IT AND THE CHK AIRMAN NEVER MENTIONED IT. ON DEP I REALIZED AT ABOUT 700 FT AGL THAT I DID NOT KNOW WHAT HDG TO FLY. I QUESTIONED THE CHK AIRMAN AND HE REPLIED HE WAS NOT GIVEN A HDG. I FLEW RWY HDG. WHEN WE CONTACTED DEP CTL; THE CTLR ASKED IF WE HAD BEEN ASSIGNED HDG 360 DEGS. THE CHK AIRMAN REPLIED 'OH; SORRY; WE MISSED THAT; WE HAD IT WRITTEN DOWN HERE.' THE CTLR REPLIED THAT IT WAS NO PROB. THE REST OF THE FLT PROCEEDED UNEVENTFULLY. PART OF THIS WAS DUE TO MY UNFAMILIARITY WITH LGA. I AM A TRAINING OFFICER FOR THE AIRLINE AND I HAVE FLOWN VERY LITTLE IN THE LAST 2 YRS. THE OVERRIDING CAUSE WAS NOT QUESTIONING THE CLRNC CLOSER TO ENSURE COMPLIANCE WITH DEP PROC.
