ACFT TAXI OUT STRIKES POST.

Narrative

I WAS TAXIING FROM FBO AFTER OBTAINING PERMISSION FROM GND CTL. GND CTL TOLD ME TO PROCEED TO AN INTXN I WAS NOT FAMILIAR WITH. I WAS LOOKING OUT THE L SIDE OF THE COCKPIT AND NOTICED AN MD-80 ON A NEARBY TXWY. I WAS TAXIING NO FASTER THAN A MAN COULD WALK AND AS I PROCEEDED TO STOP THE ACFT TO CALL GND CTL FOR PROGRESSIVE TAXI INSTRUCTIONS; MY R WINGTIP CLIPPED A SIGNPOST. I STOPPED THE ACFT TO A DEAD STOP. SHUT EVERYTHING DOWN AFTER I ADVISED GND CTL I HAD A PROB. I THEN GOT OUTSIDE THE ACFT; PUSHED IT AWAY FROM THE SIGNPOST AND TAXIED BACK TO THE PARKING SPACE. THIS TIME I CAME IN FROM A DIFFERENT DIRECTION THAN I WANT OUT. FACTORS CONTRIBUTING TO ACCIDENT: POS OF HELIS. FRESNO AIR TERMINAL USUALLY USES RWY 29L FOR PVT OPS. THIS DAY RWY 11R WAS BEING USED. UNFAMILIARITY WITH INTXN DIRECTED TO: ATTN FIXED ON OTHER ACFT RATHER THAN BOTH SIDES OF MY ACFT. ALTHOUGH I HAD FLOWN SCORES OF TIMES OUT OF FAT; I HADN'T FLOWN OUT OF IT IN SEVERAL MONTHS. AREA THAT I TAXIED IN NOT MARKED ON BLOCKED OFF AS BEING OFF LIMITS TO ACFT. I WAS NOT IN A HURRY. I WAS NOT TIRED. MY FRAME OF MIND WAS GOOD. I WAS PLANNING TO GO TO THE PRACTICE AREA AND DO A SERIES OF PROFICIENCY EXERCISES PRIOR TO THIS OP I HAD FLOWN RECENTLY. I FLY SEVERAL HRS EACH MONTH.
