NEW CONSTRUCTION AND TXWY MARKINGS AT SDF.

Narrative

OUR ACFT WAS EXITING N RAMP OF THE FRT FACILITY WITH CLRNC TO TAXI TO RWY 19. WITH RECENT CONSTRUCTION DUE TO NEW RWYS AT SDF. TXWYS HAD CHANGED SEVERAL TIMES IN THE LAST YR COMING OUT OF THE FRT FACILITY. THE N RAMP FLOWED OR CONTINUED INTO TXWY P WITH P2 (TURNOFF FOR RWY 19) STRAIGHT AHEAD. WITH CALLING FOR CHKLIST AND TAXIING ACFT OUT OF N RAMP; ACFT CONTINUED ONTO P2 BEFORE CAPT RECOGNIZED THAT A R TURN WAS NEEDED TO MAKE PAPA AND THAT RWY 19 WAS JUST AHEAD OF ACFT. CAPT STOPPED ACFT SHORT OF RWY 19 AND FO NOTIFIED GND THAT ACFT WAS ON P2 AND COULD NOT TURN TO REACH PAPA. ACFT HELD SHORT OF RWY 19 WHILE 3 OTHER ACFT LANDED AND 2 DEP. THEN GND CLRED US TO TAXI N ON RWY 19 AND R ON FOXTROT. THE LACK OF MARKINGS AND CONTINUITY OF THE CONCRETE FROM THE N RAMP TO TXWY PAPA COMBINED WITH 02 DIRECTLY AHEAD OF THE THROAT OF THE N RAMP LED TO THE CONFUSION AS TO WHICH PIECE OF CONCRETE WAS THE TXWY. THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED AT A HIGH WORKLOAD WITH ALL 3 CREW MEMBERS PERFORMING SEPARATE TASKS AS THE ACFT EXITED THE RAMP AREA. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR FLIES THE DC-8 FREIGHTER FOR A MAJOR PACKAGE CARRIER. HE WAS FLYING WITH A NEW CAPT THAT WAS ON HIS SECOND TRIP AFTER IOE AND WAS NOT USED TO TAXIING THE ACFT. THE CAPT JUST GOOFED. THERE HAS BEEN LOTS OF NEW CONSTRUCTION AT SDF; AND MANY TXWYS HAVE BEEN RENAMED. THE TXWY LABELED 'G' ON THE ASRS' COMMERCIAL CHART IS NOW 'P.' ATCT SDF WAS NOT AT ALL CONCERNED WITH THIS ERROR AS THERE WERE NO TFC CONFLICTS.
