Narrative
WE GOT A TAXI CLRNC TO TAXI TO RWY 17; NO OTHER INSTRUCTIONS. WE WERE PARKED ON THE E RAMP SO I THOUGHT WE HAD TO TAXI ACROSS 2 RWYS TO GET TO RWY 17. IN THE CLRNC THERE WERE NO INSTRUCTIONS HOLDING SHORT OF RWYS. WHEN TIME CAME TO CROSS RWY #2 I SAW A PLANE ON FINAL I ESTIMATED THAT THE AIRPLANE WAS FAR AWAY ENOUGH FOR US TO PROCEED. THE CLRNC CLRLY ALLOWED US TO CROSS ANY RWY TO GET TO RWY 17 -- FAR 91.129(I). AFTER PASSING THE SECOND RWY WE ASKED THE TWR IF THEY WERE CALLING US. THEY HAD CALLED A DIFFERENT ACFT NUMBER. THEY TOLD US TO DO A 180 DEG AND HOLD. THEY THEN GAVE US INSTRUCTIONS TO TAXI TO RWY 17 AND THAT WE HAD TO CALL THE TWR AFTER THE FLT. I WAS LATER TOLD THAT THE CTLR TOLD THE ACFT ON FINAL TO DO A GAR. I LATER GOT TO KNOW THAT THERE WAS A BETTER WAY TO GET TO RWY 17. HOW THE PROB AROSE: MISCOM. CONTRIBUTING FACTORS: PLT BEING UNFAMILIAR WITH THE E RAMP AND CTLR NOT GIVING EXACT TAXI INSTRUCTIONS. HOW IT WAS DISCOVERED: CTLR INFORMED PLT AFTER PASSING SECOND RWY. CORRECTIVE ACTION: PLANE ON FINAL DID A GAR AND I WAS TOLD TO CALL THE TWR. HUMAN PERFORMANCE -- INSTRUCTOR WOULD UNDER OTHER CIRCUMSTANCES ASKED FOR CLARIFICATION OF THE CLRNC. THAT DAY I HAD BEEN IN CONSTANT DISCUSSION WITH THE STUDENT THROUGH THE WHOLE FLT.
