UNABLE TO ESTABLISH RADIO CONTACT DURING HDG TRACK POS DEV ACCOUNT ENRTE WX AVOIDANCE.

Narrative

GOING S OR R-763 WE GOT CLRNC TO DEVIATE W OF COURSE UP TO 50 MI (BY NY COMMERCIAL RADIO) BUT BECAUSE OF THE SIZE OF THE LINE OF TSTMS WE WERE FORCED TO EXCEED THE 50 MI WE COULD NOT CONTACT NY COMMERCIAL RADIO OR MIA CTR DUE TO STATIC CAUSED BY WX. ONCE AROUND THE STORMS WE WENT DIRECTLY BACK TO THE AIRWAY. WE ADVISED MIA APCHING GND TURK THAT R-763 WAS UNUSABLE DUE TO TSTMS. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 291809: WHEN WX AVOIDANCE IS REQUIRED ALONG ATLANTIC NON RADAR RTES OBTAIN HF CLRNC EARLY AS AF RADIO RECEPTION DETERIORATES NEAR TSTMS AND CLOUD TOPS. ONCE OUTSIDE OF CLRNC AREA WE DID TURN ON ALL ACFT LIGHTS AND CLBED 300 FT OFF ALT AS FURTHER TFC AVOIDANCE. POSSIBLY SHOULD HAVE SQUAWKED 7700 FOR MIL RADAR (IF COVERAGE IN THE AREA). ALSO; WE INCREASED AIRSPD TO MAKE OUR ETA AT NEXT RPTING POINT. ONCE BACK IN ARID CONTACT WITH NY COMMERCIAL RADIO RPTED LAT LONG POS AND ESTIMATE ON WHEN WE WOULD BE RE-ESTABLISHED AN AIRWAY. MONITORED TCASII IN ABOVE; BELOW AND LEVEL MODES SO AS TO SEE ANY TFC SIMILARLY EQUIPPED -- NONE NOTED. SHOULD HAVE BROADCAST OVER CARIB FREQ OF 130.55 AND 121.5 BUT IN TRYING TO GET HF CONTACT DIDN'T THINK OF IT. MIGHT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO CONTACT ACFT OPERATING IN CLR AND ANNOUNCE POS AS WELL AS RELAY TO NY COMMERCIAL RADIO.
