Narrative
WE WERE CLRED TO TAXI AFTER PUSHBACK FROM CONCOURSE D TO RWY 16L FOR DEP. PASSING ABEAM CONCOURSE C TO OUR L AND THE N SATELLITE TO OUR R JUST PRIOR TO ENTERING TXWY B; I NOTICED A GND VEHICLE SBOUND COMING FROM OUR R SIDE. WHEN I NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE DID NOT APPEAR TO BE SLOWING TO GIVE WAY TO OUR ACFT; I SAID TO CAPT (WHO WAS TAXIING ACFT); 'TRUCK COMING FROM THE R.' WE WERE TAXIING AT A SLOW SPD. THE CAPT DID NOT IMMEDIATELY SLOW ACFT SO I APPLIED FIRM BRAKING TO STOP. THE GND VEHICLE APPEARED TO BRAKE AT ABOUT THE SAME TIME AS WE DID. HE CAME TO WITHIN 20-40 FT OF ACFT. WE CHKED WITH PAX FOR INJURIES DUE TO QUICK STOP. WE HAD GND CTL TRACK DRIVER OF TRUCK TO FIND OUT HIS IDENTITY. AFTER TALKING WITH CAPT; IT TURNS OUT THAT WE BOTH MUST HAVE APPLIED BRAKES AT SAME MOMENT BECAUSE WE EACH THOUGHT WE WERE THE ONE WHO STOPPED ACFT. IN RETROSPECT; THE VERY ABRUPT STOP TO AVOID THE VEHICLE COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED IF I HAD TAKEN CTL OF BRAKES FROM CAPT SOONER AND HAD NOT TRIED TO VERBALLY COMMUNICATE WHEN THERE WAS VERY LITTLE TIME TO EVALUATE THE SIT.
