Narrative
WE WERE GIVEN A DSCNT TO 8000 FT FROM 9000 FT FROM ZNY. I (PNF) WAS GETTING ATIS AND MISSED THE 100 FT CALL. WHEN I LOOKED DOWN; WE WERE AT 7500 FT AND CTR JUST QUESTIONED OUR ALT. HE TOLD US TO JUST CONTINUE THE DSCNT TO 7000 FT. WE DID THAT WITHOUT ANY CONFLICTS. I; AS CAPT; JUST NEED TO BE MORE PERCEPTIVE OF OUR CURRENT SIT IN ALL PHASES OF FLT. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 294069: THE CAUSE OF THIS WAS UNFAMILIARITY IN THE NEW YORK AREA. IN MY OPINION; THIS WAS CAUSED BY MY COMPANY'S ACTION IN PLACING ME IN NEW YORK TO COVER FLYING LOST BY PREVIOUS ATR'S. WHEN THE ATR FLEET WAS GNDED THE COMPANY SENT CREWS SCURRYING ACROSS THE COUNTRY. I AM NOT SAYING MY BEING IN NEW YORK WAS UNSAFE. WHAT I AM SAYING IS THAT I HAVE ONLY FLOWN TO ABOUT 10 CITIES OUT OF RALEIGH DURHAM OVER THE PAST 2 1/2 - 3 YRS. NOWHERE ELSE! YET; ON SUDDEN NOTICE; I AM PUT INTO NEW YORK. OTHER COMMUTER CREWS ON DIFFERENT EQUIP ARE REGULARLY SENT THROUGH DIFFERENT HUB CITIES; YET ON MY EQUIP (SD360) WE ONLY OPERATE OUT OF THE HUB WE ARE BASED IN. THE BEST SOLUTION WOULD BE FOR THE COMPANY TO USE ME OUT OF MORE CITIES. THIS WILL ALLOW ME TO BE MORE FAMILIAR WITH OPS IN THE ENTIRE SYS AND THUS MORE SAFE.
