FLC OF AN MLG RETURNED TO LAND AFTER THE LNDG GEAR FAILED TO RETRACT PROPERLY.
Narrative
I; THE COPLT; RPTED TO WORK PRIOR TO REQUIRED CHK-IN AT XG50 LCL AND PULLED UP EWR WX. SINCE THE WX WAS BAD AT EWR; I PROCEEDED TO THE ACFT AND PERFORMED MY PREFLT AT APPROX XH05-XH10 LCL COMPLETING IT IN APPROX 6-8 MINS. ALL GEAR DOORS WERE UP AND THE BYPASS LEVER WAS FULLY STOWED. THE MAINT PERSONNEL WERE IN THE PROCESS OF BEGINNING A DAILY INSPECTION WHEN I RETURNED TO THE COCKPIT AFTER MY EXTERIOR PREFLT. I DID THIS PREFLT EARLY SO I COULD CHK ON OUR AIR TFC DELAY TO EWR. WE DEPARTED THE GATE AT XI21 LCL; AND DURING TAXI AND THE TKOF ROLL ALL INDICATIONS AND LIGHTS WERE NORMAL. UPON ROTATION AND GEAR RETRACTION; THE GEAR WOULD NOT RETRACT AND THE DOOR OPEN LIGHT WAS NOW ON. COMPANY COM PROCS WERE ACCOMPLISHED WHILE STAYING VFR AND IN THE LCL AREA. MAINT WAS CONSULTED PRIOR TO LNDG. AN UNEVENTFUL LNG ON RWY 27 WAS ACCOMPLISHED. DOORS WERE RETRACTED BY MAINT AND THE GEAR PINNED PRIOR TO TAXI CLR OF RWY AND BACK TO THE GATE. THE LOGBOOK; UPON INSPECTION AFTER THIS; INDICATED THE DAILY WAS DONE AT XG30Z HOWEVER; THE ACFT DID NOT LAND AT MEM FROM AUS UNTIL XG58Z. THE ENTRY PROBABLY WAS AN ADDITION ERROR AND SHOULD HAVE READ XH30Z. AT NO TIME WERE INDIVIDUALS IN DANGER. THE MAINT BYPASS LEVER ON THE BOTTOM OF THE ACFT WAS FOUND EXTENDED. THIS LEVER WAS STOWED AT THE TIME OF MY PREFLT BUT IS UTILIZED BY MAINT TO PERFORM THEM DAILY INSPECTIONS. IT MAY NOT HAVE BEEN FULLY LATCHED AFTER THEIR USE AND ROTATION FORCES PULLED THE LEVER TO THE EXTEND POS.
