ALT; COURSE; SPD AND HDG DEVS -- MISUSAGE OF THE AUTOPLT FLT CTL SYS.
Narrative
DEPARTING OUT OF OAK ARPT; ON THE SKYLINE 2 DEP. THERE'S A 3000 FT AT OR BELOW ALT AT 6 DME; ON THE RWY 11 DEP. JUST AFTER TKOF; THE CAPT; WHO WAS FLYING THE ACFT; CALLED FOR A NON-STANDARD PROC ON THE FLT GUIDANCE SYS. SINCE WE WERE IN A CRITICAL PHASE OF FLT; I DID NOT QUESTION THE CALL OUT. AT ABOUT 1000 FT AGL; THE TWR HANDED US OFF TO BAY DEP. ATC CLRED US UP TO 4000 FT AT ABOUT THE SAME TIME; THE ACFT JERKED HARD TO THE R; AND CONTINUED IN A NOSE HIGH ATTITUDE AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. AT THIS POINT; THE CAPT TURNED OFF THE AUTOPLT AND AUTOTHROTTLES; BUT CONTINUED TO FLY THE ACFT IN A NON-STANDARD MANNER. CLBING THROUGH ABOUT 2500 FT; ATC CLRED US TO 6000 FT AND ASKED US TO ACCELERATE TO 250 KTS. THE ACFT WAS STILL ABOUT 16-17 DEGS NOSE HIGH AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE PAST 180 KTS. I WAS CONCENTRATING ON THE AIRPLANE SO MUCH; THAT I DID NOT ASK ATC IF WE WERE CLRED TO CLB UNRESTR. ALSO; ON THE SID; THERE'S A R TURN THAT HAS TO BE MADE AT 6 DME. BOTH THE CAPT AND I WERE SO PREOCCUPIED WITH THE ACFT'S PERFORMANCE; THAT TURN WAS NOT STARTED UNTIL 8.5 DME. CORRECTIVE ACTIONS: FLY THE ACFT IN THE STANDARD COMPANY POLICY AND NOT IN A NON- STANDARD MODE; UNLESS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY.
