Narrative
DEPARTED SMO VFR AND CLRED INTO LAX CLASS B VIA SHORELINE RTE AT 5500 FT. CLRED TO 11500 FT AFTER PASSING LAX SEBOUND; AND THEN CLRED ON MY OWN NAV EBOUND. ABOUT 6 DME W OF SLI VOR; SOCAL SAYS SQUAWK 12000 FREQ CHANGE APPROVED. PROB: I'M NOW POINTED AT THE 'PIE SHAPED' SEGMENT OF LAX CLASS B AIRSPACE OVER AND E OF SLI VOR AT AN ALT WHICH WILL RESULT IN A VIOLATION. I ATTEMPTED CONTACT WITH SOCAL ON 134.35 AND WHEN IT WAS OBVIOUS THE FREQ WAS TOO CONGESTED; I STARTED A CLB TO 135000 FT. I'M SURE I BUSTED THE CLASS B AIRSPACE. MY TCAD REMAINED SILENT; AND I DID NOT SEE ANY OTHER ACFT IN THE VICINITY. HUMAN FACTORS: IT TOOK ME SEVERAL SECONDS TO RECOGNIZE MY PROB; AND TO RESPOND. BY THEN IT WAS TOO LATE. SOCAL COULD HAVE HELPED WITH A VECTOR TO THE SE OR SUGGESTED A CLB. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE TYPE ACFT WAS A KING AIR 200. THE RPTR HAS NOT HAD THIS HAPPEN TO HIM SINCE; BUT; A SIMILAR CASE OCCURRED BEFORE IN WHICH HE WAS HEADED TOWARD A CLASS B AIRSPACE WITH FLT FOLLOWING VFR AND UPON APCHING THE AIRSPACE WAS TOLD TO SQUAWK 1200 AND FREQ CHANGE WAS APPROVED. THE DIFFERENCE WAS THAT IN THE RPTED CASE; THE PLT WAS IN THE CLASS B AIRSPACE AND IN THE OTHER CASE HE WAS NOT YET IN THE CLASS B AIRSPACE.
